1) the American government, at the time of their analysis, had something to gain by discrediting Wikileaks?
2) the American government / american IC has a track record of lying to the US people?

Snowden on the heels of Clapper's Congressional testimony, proving Clapper perjured himself, was a gamechanger, NT. It just was. Assange enjoyed the slipstream that created.

e.g., CNN giving Clinton Debate questions in advance, and Clinton taking them was unforgivable. CNN's lack of coverage of its own gaping breach was atrocious.

After Crowley's 2012 inexplicably coordinated intercession in the POTUS Debate, it actually leaves one wishing Wikileaks had similar access in 2012 to establish just how clean (or filthy) CNN was in that fiasco.
