quote:Yep. Humans have been running against classic evolutionary pressures for a long time.
The evolutionary path has been transhumanism for a century at least.
We keep premature infants and people with chronic illnesses alive who never would have survived in a pre-tech environment, we preserve and pass on traits that used to be selected against because medicine removes the survival pressure, we build social systems that let people survive and reproduce even if they can’t secure resources on their own, and we use technology to replace physical traits entirely with things like glasses, implants, prosthetics, dialysis, and insulin.
On top of that, we override basic reproductive instincts with contraception and voluntary childlessness. At this point human evolution is mostly cultural and technological, with biology just along for the ride.

Evolution doesn’t provide a ‘why’ for anything. Evolution and natural selection are natural processes that are unguided without any moral oughtness involved.
Those who reject God have no basis for objective moral reasoning, and killing babies, the disabled, the elderly, women, Jews, or any one else is not objectively wrong in evolutionary theory, since the only “goal” (there are no goals for natural and impersonal forces) is survival of the species. How that happens doesn’t really matter from a moral perspective.

Because human sacrifice is something we have always done for some reason and now we've basically industrialized it and sanitized with with a PR campaign.
Changes nothing. We're worse about child sacrifice now than we ever have been.
Slavery as well.

Its not evolutionary, it's spiritual. Good vs evil. This is as old as human history itself. THAT is the basic truth hidden behind modern day intellectual mumbo jumbo

You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.
Evolution is a fact.
And it continues to happen today.
For example, evolution is why the flu vaccine changes every year, because the flu virus evolves.

Does the animal kingdom kill their little ones with the frequency that humans kill theirs?
I do know that an animal will remove from feeding, even suffocate, a litter member that they, for some reason, do not want to live.
So much has changed in the lives of so many people when it comes down to the question "Why or how are we here"? Absent a belief system, why would a person care about anything they do?

quote:Well said. It’s refreshing to see the point stated this plainly from the religious perspective, and I appreciate the clarity.
Evolution doesn’t provide a ‘why’ for anything. Evolution and natural selection are natural processes that are unguided without any moral oughtness involved.
quote:Even outside religion and outside humans, you can see stable moral-like rules show up. Plenty of animals enforce clear boundaries around harming their own young, sick, or elderly members. Elephants protect calves and injured adults and will physically intervene if one of their own is being attacked. Wolves bring food to injured packmates instead of abandoning them. Dolphins will keep weak members afloat for hours. There are obviously countless examples.

These behaviours reinforce the well-being of the group which results in higher reproductive success so the existence of a value structure isn't anti-evolutionary.
If lower-order animals are capable of it then humans can obviously build much more explicit versions.

Truly want to understand the evolutionary answer.
Man is not "evolving" by any metric. "Evolution" is scientific hogwash. But I digress.
We are shamelessly devolving, stumbling, bumbling and swirling down the vortex of narcissistic madness and evil. Sacrificing babies is fealty to Moloch.
It is written:
Perilous Times and Perilous Men
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 3-8

Granted, there is no reason to blindly believe anonymous people on an internet message board.
Please ask your physician whether the flu virus evolves and whether that is why the vaccine changes every year.
I wish you well in your edification on the matter.

Because humans are a cancer to the earth. There are too many of us. We can afford to lose many humans

quote:Natural selection is only one driver. Evolution includes drift, mutation, gene flow, and sexual selection too. So that's why using 'evolution' is both more succinct and accurate. Evolution is the whole process, not just the one mechanism you focused on.
Natural selection selects traits, evolution is the outcome.

Clearly. I didn't think I'd live to see the day, but here we are -- yes, at the brink of end days Biblical prophecy ("as in the days of Noah").

Science has sterilized the humanity out of humans. We’re becoming robotic in our emotional awareness. The connection to the miracle has been severed and it’s taken for granted.

It wouldn't, but thats why Evolution isnt an end all be all.
People have given up on the future.
Socialism is dividing a static pie, less for you more for me.
Those people have given up on growth, God, and goodness.
The state has convinced women its them or the baby.
