Most people didn't realize the depth and breadth of the swamp. It's not just a bunch of people in key positions; it's the vast majority of big government institutions.
Obviously, firing a bunch of people won't do shite. There's no stopping this swamp, all you can do is contain it a little until the damn breaks.
We are to blame for letting big government take control of this country.

It’s going to take a long long time. Unfortunately if I had to guess the Democrats weaponized every federal agency with their kind starting with Clinton, and Bush probably never realized it. Basically if the FBI has 10 jobs to fill odds are 80% of the fill are Democrats. Only way to reverse it is to have a republican president hold office from 2024-2036.

The swamp wasn't "drained" because 2 reasons.
Reason 1 - Both sides, Republicans and Democrats, are taking money from corporate lobbyist to make sure the system, which benefits the wealthy, doesn't fundamentally change. The whole back and forth and name calling is just theater for the masses to give the illusion of power to make meaningful change.

Reason 2 - Trump himself never intended to do so. It wasn't so much a campaign promise, than it was a chat for his rallys. Go look it up he admitted it. He said: (paraphrasing) "he thought it was a corny line, until people started cheering and chanting, then he started saying it like he meant it, and people really cheered."
