Because drug dealers are too prideful and stupid to drive mini vans. They drive conspicuous vehicles and a traffic stop is probable cause that leads to drug busts and arrests.

Don’t want to be stop. Sell your charger dumbass.

Slightly different.

A cop writing you a ticket and taking your tag can result in a bench warrant if you blow off your appearance.

A camera light or speed camera, depending on your state and municipal laws, may not be enforceable.

If a cop determines I did something that warrants my paying dollars to a country or parish I want to be stopped and have it explained to me.

I don't want a fine appearing in my mailbox a week later.

Good idea. Some clown is weaving all over the highway, then kills himself and a family of 4 because he's shitfaced drunk. Two weeks later his family gets a ticket in the mail for Failure to Maintain a Single Lane of Traffic. Sounds splendid.....unless that family of 4 was yours.

I accidentally downloaded the KNBC app on my cell phone about fives years ago. It is the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles. That station has two helicopters, and they cover just about every police chase in the LA area, and there are many. Some of the chases are absolutely insane. Quite a few times, they just let the driver get away, calling off police cars and helicopter surveillance. What is really amazing is these drivers thinking they can get away with their antics, and a few actually do, it seems. Atleast for a while, they might. The police officers there do use a great bit of strategy in protecting the public.

No way to prove who was driving in those cases. Which is why the cam tickets don't get paid.

I'm no lawyer, but I'm wondering if changing the laws such that if you are the registered owner of the vehicle you are responsible for the traffic violations of anyone you allow to drive the vehicle would be constitutional.

If so, then they could do what you suggest.

Q. How do municipalities collect tax money from people who don't pay property taxes?

A. Speed trap low income, high traffic areas. Pull over every burned out taillight, lane switch without signalling, not waiting 2 seconds before turning on red, and rolling stop.

This may work in your municipality, but I know the municipal judge in my town and about 80% of the court stories he tells me involve people not paying their fines.

He doesn't want to jail them because then not only does the city not get the fine, but it costs the taxpayers money to house them in jail.

What happens is they claim they can't pay the fine and he tells them, "No problem, I will let (whoever is in charge of the trash truck) know to expect you at 7 a.m. Saturday morning and the city will credit you $15 an hour towards your fine...we'll expect to see you every Saturday until it's paid off," and then they magically figure out a way to pay...but almost never all at once.

They pay $20 a month for a year and a half or something like that.

Which then creates that much more work for the city when they stop paying 3 months in and have to be dragged back into court to go through the same process all over again.

That's a very long way of saying it ain't the license to print money that you are portraying it to be.

Not with that particular demographic, anyway.

Well

I mean they'd do the same if they were allowed to "randomly" search homes too

Alas. Thankfully. Not yet

I’ve thought the same. If someone is swerving and you suspect stuck driving that’s different. But lack of inspection sticker, speeding, running red lights... just slap a sticker on their windshield

What’s wrong with a search and seizure based on no evidence with no judicial safeguards?

Can you explain that? If someone is pulled over because they are weaving in traffic, and then the cop smells pot, he had probable cause to search the vehicle. That is a good thing. Can you tell me how that violates the law or is a "bad thing"?

No

It isn't. It creates perverse incentives that any half bright person should be able to easily contemplate

You don't think blocking police from stopping vehicles "creates a perverse incentive" for criminals to brazenly break the law (traffic drugs, drive drunk, speed in a getaway car following a serious crime, etc)?
