Why Manufacturing in China?

There are a number of reason that manufacturing of many things, including precursor chemicals for pharma, are in China.
1. A few really stupid EPA do gooder regs. Less regs on imported goods than goods made in USA. It even costs more for a company to reduce its waste output buy recovering parts of the stream to sell due cost of permits and legal fees.
2. Clinton/Newtron tax reforms actually paid companies who shutdown manufacturing plants here on a unit by unit basis, for 5 years got money but couldn't demolish during that time.
3. ACA (Obamacare) Medical Device Tax

There's a one word answer to this question.
Greed.
America is not a market. America is a nation.
Moving forward, it's going to be crucial that all of our citizens act like that. Those who don't need to be shamed and put out of business...and if our "capitalists" continue the pursuit of state capitalism and windfall profits through the use of third world labor, it will be up to us to demand our politicians end it by federal law or constitutional amendment.
Now that the hazards of trade with the third world has been objectively demonstrated, it's the job of every American to buy American when possible and regardless of the inconvenience to leave made in China products on the shelf to rot.
...and as much as I detest Obama and the ACA, this has been going on for a long time with the blessing of Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Bush.

ObamaCare and his systematic destruction of the manufacturing base of the USA. Probably to punish the citizens of the USA for all its evil deeds. "Those jobs aren't coming back." - was what he wanted. Wanted being the key word here.

It was all part of the plan to cut America down to size for our racist founding and weaken us for Marxist takeover. It didnt hurt the politicians who sold us out to China made billions.

Yea but Russia is the boogeyman
China must pay for their behavior here. I’m not voting for anyone that doesn’t run on that platform. They have reopened the wet markets that caused this....no changes...still eating that nasty shite

Labor is much less of an issue now. The percentage of cost of goods that is attributed to labor is far less than it was 20 years ago, and wages in china are far greater.
I also think that was part of the provisions in the latest tax cuts. If you can capitalize a piece of equipment in the first year vs depreciating it, you dont need to have 3 lower skilled chinese manually doing the process. Hence the breakeven to come back to the states starts to make since, particularly when you throw in shipping.
And now that they have seen the cost of business disruption, it should be a no brainer to move closer to home.
If not then shame on them and let them swim on their own the next time this happens, and there will be a next time, chini has done this three times already....and gotten away with it....three times.

EPA, OSHA, other regs, tax rate, repatriation of offshore income, Trump has done everything he can to bring it back, if this latest mess does not do it, let the companies handle the next crisis on their own.

What is the common denominator to most of the answers here.....REGULATIONS!
We have a congress that is in the business of trying to regulate everything. For God’s sake the damn Democrats tried to slip a regulation into the stimulus that required any company that accepted stimulus money had to create a Chief Diversity Officer. I mean let’s pay a C-suite wage to a generally low IQ person who got a worthless degree to scream “diversity is our strength” in every board meeting! Who gives a frick what your skin color is, if you have a prick or va-ja-ja or if you like to plug another man’s arse. That doesn’t make you more efficient in your job and increase share holder value does it?

It’s not Congressional Acts that are the problem.
Congress delegates it’s legislative authority to Executive Agencies who then basically write laws in secret, publish them in the CFRs, which if you printed them would fill a room. Nobody can ever know what’s in all of them. And they change depending on which pencil pusher wants a promotion.
Worse, sometimes these agencies then just make random opinion letters about how to interpret their insane regulations anyway. All of this- with no accountability to the public. Because god knows you can’t fire a freaking bureaucrat.
The Deep State is real. It’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s these assholes with no accountability.
There’s no motivation of the Globalist businesses who have lawyers to deal with these bureaucrats, or the lawyers who work for the Globalist businesses who used to be those bureaucrats to change this system.
Globalists did this because they have the wherewithal to just move their shite to China to avoid the rules they wrote for everyone else that they don’t have to live by bc they just go hide in China who doesn’t GAF about its countryside or its people or really human life in general.
frick China. And frick the Globalists who tethered them to us.

Do nothing dems love the slave wages. The same party that wants 15/hr minimum wage also loves taking advantage of China’s labor laws or lack thereof.

Because American citizens want lower prices so they can spend their disposable income on cigarettes , beer and pot instead of investing it for a rainy day.
