Reality.
Russia is not leaving empty handed. Period. Start from there. Make a deal or Russia keeps going and takes it all. Not complicated.

What exactly is the US supposed to do with Russia to play hardball short of actually starting a war with them. They’re sanctioned to hell and back. We’ve been helping to kill their soldiers for 3+ years. I mean I guess Trump could just say mean things about Putin in the media. It wouldn’t really accomplish anything but maybe it would make all the superficial women feel like something is being done?
Why doesn’t Europe play hardball and stop buying all of its energy from the evil empire to the East?

Libs are just being assholes about literally everything. Zelensky is the one who is slow to the negotiating table. He also happens to be the one we have some leverage over. He’s also being pulled in different directions by some fricked up European globalists. On top of that, he’s losing the war.
Once he comes to his senses, they will come to a mutual agreement on a ceasefire.
But you can bet, regardless of the agreed upon terms, libs will screech like monkeys that Trump gave everything to Putin.

I’m not sure what your point is.
Simply pointing out that Russia is offering Ukraine the opportunity to give up their territory to Russia for nothing of value in return. And their offer has not materially changed.

One thing Trump could do—and perhaps he is biding his time—is pivot to what RUS will have to live with in terms of UKR security agreements with the West in view of RUS having invaded UKR and broken multiple agreements on that front (no pun intended). Trump could also threaten to ramp up military aid to UKR. My hope is that Trump is holding these things for when he feels me needs to get RUS to budge. Otherwise, I struggle to understand his negotiating strategy as I doubt he would consider surrender to be a strategy.

I'm not sure you are reading Putin right. I keep on thinking about his run at Kyiv in the early days of the war. He wanted Kyiv. If you want a country's Capitol you want the country.
I'm reading him the same way you seem to. I wanted to be an NFL football player back when I 12. I’m 62 now and no longer thinking of trying out. I think Putin is in about the same situation.

Because Putin wants America to get out of Ukraine and stay out of the conflict.
That type of interference being this close to Russia makes them nervous.
