Lemme splain risk assessment to ya.

I give you this choice:

a. You can have $50. It's yours. Take it.
b. You can have $50 if I toss this coin and it comes up heads.

Which do you choose?
If you choose 'b' you're a moron.
Donald Trump has the nomination already.

Sure. It's not your deranged projection, accusations, insults, and flip flopping that bothers people.

Trade? Seeing as China is crying to Biden, I'd asy Don accomplished something there by playing tough and demanding a better stake for the US. Short term hurts end up being long term gains.

Not about China. The article noted "universal tariffs", which is a huge tax raise on consumers.

So there's no risk.

If he's ahead by 70 points, why not spend time working to heal wounds and get ready for the general? There's no risk, he already has the nomination wrapped up.

Right...this is why it's a smart move for TRUMP.

Thing is...I'm not Trump. Neither are you. I, as a voter, would like to be able to see my options...and I'd say that even if I preferred Trump over the field. I don't want to be locked into a Trump-Biden rematch if we on our side could have had a better option but were denied the ability to better make that decision because a candidate was only interested in how debating would effect him and him alone.

It's kind of amazing we've now gotten to the point where we are going to make excuses for not having primary debates.

Exactly.

"He's not scared!"

Ok, then why not debate?"

"Because they could only hurt him!"

Um...doesn't that mean he's scared of losing ground if he debates?

"He doesn't need to...he's got a huge lead!"

So, why not debate?

"Because the others don't have a chance!"

So how will debating hurt him?

It's a wonderfully hilarious circular argument.

So you seem to want certain "legitimate" questions asked of Trump but are unwilling to look at 2020 and all that went wrong with the steal of it? Let me assure you it isn't staying in the past as you seem to indicate it is...the same damned thing will happen in 2024 because this crap hasn't and won't fix itself. You will literally have the exact theft from 2020 go down in 2024 but go on and think everything is just magically all back to good and ready to be clean this time...

So let me be as clear as possible. It's called ballot harvesting; which in some states is legal. Ballot harvesting did happen and will continue to happen. The DEMs and REPUBs can both do it. Yes, the media did everything in their power to get Poopy Pants elected and succeeded. The consortium of the DNC (ballot harvesting) and MSM "stole" the election. If you believe that something of that scale was pulled off (stolen election) by some nefarious cabal you are a moron. There are 2 things the gov't is good at: 1. Nothing and 2. Over reacting. They do not possess the ineptitude to pull something off on that grand of scale without a single person talking and/or finding out about it. Also, Trump doesn't even have to debate anyone, just sit down and answer questions about your record. Oh wait, he did some of that with Megan Kelly. How did that go?

There's also an issue of enthusiasm. There are millions of conservatives that will probably vote for Trump if he's the nominee but an enthusiasm gap will be hard to overcome if those people are just voting out of obligation.

Unenthusiastic voters don't have conversations trying to persuade friends and family, they don't volunteer for campaigns, they don't remind people to register and offer to take them to the polls. And they won't stand in long lines, in the rain, or cold to vote either.

If the nomination is assured, it makes no sense to waste this time. He behaves like a man who thinks he's entitled to your vote. Not like someone who has to earn votes.

I'm gonna try one more time with logic and then I'm giving up on you people.

Here is a word: 'Presumption.' It started with Shakespeare's quote about suffering a tad with the Status Quo rather than risk the unknown. Then it went to courts with the rule that it's better to let a guilty man go free than to hang an innocent man by mistake.

In argumentation theory you must ALWAYS do absolutely nothing if 'doing something' gains you nothing and yet has a tiny risk of doing harm.'
Trump's SQ is Nominated. He has nothing to gain. When you have that in the bag SQ logic says DO NOTHING.

Again...this is why it's smart FOR TRUMP. And I agree...it is. He can only be hurt by debating.

That doesn't make it any less of a chicken shite move for the voters that have to make the choice here, and that's why he's being called out for it.

Fine. Get pissed and don't vote for Trump. Your vote doesn't matter in a landslide.

For most of American history there were no primary debates.

This is the kind of weak response one gives when they know the topic has significant merit but knows Trump hides from the debates because there are real questions that Trump needs to answer that he won’t be able to that will pass muster.

It will matter for the General, which Trump lost in 2020.
