So you do think W is a very bad guy?

Clearly.

The 2 largest international disruptions since Vietnam, basically, are our invasion of Iraq in 2004 and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

We've already seen the negative externalities of the Iraq invasion the past 20 years, but we've yet to see what this propaganda movement to create a wedge between the US and Europe, which NPCs in this thread have displayed in full force, will lead us. It probably won't be good for markets/trade and our SOL.

Iraq invasion: 2003

I don't believe you. You didn't join this fledgling message board in 2004 and immediately start meaningfully engaging others in political affairs and getting 'attacked' for it. People hadn't grown to hate you yet. You think way too highly of yourself.

Can you be anti-Russian and also anti proxy war with Russia at the same time?

Polls showed huge support for the invasion of Iraq, as in about 90% of the country. Most people who claim they were against invading Iraq are completely full of shite.

Iraq or Afghanistan?

I'd believe that with Afghanistan, and while I was opposed to nation building, I was not opposed to a response against the Taliban there.

Iraq was always nonsensical and emotion-driven with no real relationship to 911

Very reasonable.

Personally, I dont like sending them cash, loans, or any new military materiel. I largely dont mind us sending them equipment that was going to be mothballed. I would rather that equipment get used destroying an adversary's gear than sit in a warehouse before we pay to have it disposed of.

We definitely sent them way to many ATACMS. While we are going to phase them out, and they would be mothballed in the next few years, the replacement for them is way behind on production (typical government + MIC). We only had about 2000 of those to begin with, and they would be crucial in the event of a war with China where it would be island chain defense.

That was the result of Israeli lobbying, they had been pushing for it since the first Gulf War ended. Zelikow said the war was about making the Middle East safe for Israel, his words.

It’s 90% contrarian rebellion against the US elite prerogatives because the conservative caste has felt particularly jilted by them for a couple of decades. The other 10% is low hanging culture war fruit Putin takes advantage of.

It really is as simple as that

Based on the number of people who continue to argue Zelensky has some relation to 2014, that 10% is way low.

Fair point. I just double checked, it was 79% for Iraq, and the higher polling numbers was for Afghanistan.

And yes, nation building has been one of the biggest failures in US policy since the end of WW2. Extremely costly, with minimal tangible benefits for the US. The few exceptions have been the Koreans, Japanese, and Taiwanese who make meaningful efforts to do their share in having their own defense base.

The justifications are secondary to the feeling of resentment that is underlying and there regardless. There are plenty of justifications, but I don’t think they are as important as why the sentiment is there in the first place.

I am being very honest about this. I am on the more anti Ukraine side of this equation, but this is what the situation is.

Because they’re stupid people. The rise of stupidity in this country has been unfathomable. There’s literally nothing else that can explain it. Goodluck getting a rational discussion out of anyone from here on this either. Anyone who sides with Putin, will be next to him for an eternity in hell. No true Christian can support that man.
