Because nothing ever happens until it does, and then it was always going to happen and just a matter of time.

Who's going to fight the next war? Unless we are bullying some middle eastern shithole we'll probably need to draft to get our manpower up to par. Otherwise we'll rely on a technological advantage that is only as good as what we can produce or buy elsewhere.

Iraq and Afghanistan pulled the mask for a lot of people, you're just sacrificing of yourself to make some politician who will never go, rich.

I believe an effort to take Taiwan is squarely an active short term goal of China’s. And any takeover by China would most definitely be a “hostile takeover” chock full of ongoing claims of human rights abuses and more. Thus an open invitation to the world to jump in and straighten it all out.

So my curiosity is this: of Trump were to run and win in ‘24 and this matter that let’s assume has had a tough effect on the U.S., terrible economic situation, China perhaps being perceived as the top dog militarily, etc. Basically what could be reasonably deemed an ongoing clear and present danger to this country.

Would President Trump be immediately aggressive in calling all hands on deck to fashion a series of responses with goal of beat China back down or bust? Starting with clear communication of expectations or goals and then work up to tactical demonstration of capabilities and will, then all the way up to calling for the Four Horsemen.

I think definitely yes and China would believe to their core that NOTHING is off the table with this President, and it genuinely gives them pause. In that case I believe Trump could and would go into deal making mode, accepting nothing less than status quo prior to Taiwan takeover.

JMO

ETA…..oh and I hate to have to say it to some folks, but Trump is THE only person alive who could turn that dreadful situation around.

Noticing it and being in a position to do anything meaningful about it are two very different things. It's amazing how all of the issues around the world seemed to sorta vanish for about 4 years only to magically reappear as soon as Trump was no longer president.
