Picking your politicians in this state is like picking which STD you want. Some suck worse than others but regardless of which one you choose, you will get fricked and deal with the consequences.

I'd think you have more pressing threats to NOLA and it's future, wouldn't you? Yes you might get flooded out, but I'd be more concerned with your local leadership than clutching pearls over the levee board.
But why create a problem?

Okay... But seriously, if he asked you to give him a hand job would you turn him down?

agreed. His actions make no sense.
But I find it humorous that the levee board is mentioned as a threat to the "long term future of NOLA". Sort of like a cancer patient with multiple organ failures worrying about sun screen.

You would probably offer to put it in your mouth.

...or don't. I really don't give a shite.

That's dumb. Real dumb.
You must have forgot. In the aftermath of the levee failures during Katrina, the public learned the levee boards were doing everything but maintaining and improving levees. They had casinos, airports, and other non-levee or flood control projects.
The boards were staffed with good ole boys and cronies, people who had NO EXPERTISE whatsoever about flood control. None. Nasa. Zip.
SO after Katrina, we actually did something right and fixed that problem.
The poli board raised hell when Alario tried to water it down a few years after passage.
We are our own worst enemies.

the levee police

I don't take issue with anything you posted about the levee boards in NOLA. But that's not the only, nor the biggest threat to the city.

Why are we still discussing the levees after almost 100 years. Just keep the frickers maintained properly.

This is Louisiana. Somebody's brother in law is getting or already got rich on it.

A lot of Boomers were calling Nelson "a liberal" during the election because he wanted to change the state so much eventhough he' was probably the most fiscally conservative candidate in the race. Go figure, Louisiana voters always find a way to make themeselves prove why we rank last in everything.

You realize that it’s possible to try and fix more than 1 issue at a time right? And as OweO is saying, the levee board currently isn’t a problem, the actions Landry is looking to take will cause problems as he’s trying to make it go back to pre-Katrina status quo.
It makes zero sense and seems like it’s strictly an executive power grab to appoint politically connected cronies and yes men as opposed to people that actually know about maintaining and improving levees and flood protection.

Because Landry is moving to go back to the pre-Katrina times when we did everything but maintain them properly.

I'm glad people are finally starting to catch onto this. He's trying his damnedest to politicize and privatize flood control in the state, which should terrify all of us.

He is doing this on all boards in the state. People are starting to catch on, but they already let most of the toothpaste out of the tube.
And then when he loses in 2 years, we're going to get a new Governor with the same bullshite power to appoint all of his own people, too. Then all the people who voted to approve those constitutional amendments last year will piss and moan and blame whatever Democrat gets elected for using the exact powers they gave him or her.
