BTW, Venezuela has larger oil reserves than Saudi Arabia.
Harder to get to and, more expensive to refine. Heavy crude.

Please let's not equate it any other way than VZ has slimy voter practices they shared w/ democrats.
I was hoping someone would have already gotten it right, when I clicked on the thread.
Venezuela is integrally-involved in the 2020 election theft. That of all of the bad guys on the planet, the President who is determined to end as many armed conflicts before they begin is picking a fight with them speaks volumes as to where they're going with this.

Why do I find myself strangely thinking that this might not be the worst thing that could happen?

Why do we want a regime change in Venezuela?
Because we don't like them.

Ummmmm I guess we just keep all that make the trek here, give them full Citizenship rights when they get here, so we don't help fix the reason they left.
Fricking A people learn to look past your nose.

To be as transparent as your character, here are two reasons that I think. For the record, and to answer your question, no, I don't give a frick how we do what we want to achieve the goal.
1. Strategic alliances with US rivals: In 2025, Venezuela built stronger ties with Russia and China, which the U.S. considers a threat to its influence in the region.
**Venezuela and China signed new agreements on technology, energy, and infrastructure.
**Venezuela and Russia preliminarily approved a "Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Treaty".
2. Control of oil reserves: Historically, Venezuela's vast oil reserves have been a key factor in U.S. policy toward the country. In 2025, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff on imports from any country that imports Venezuelan oil, demonstrating a continuing interest in exerting influence over Venezuela's oil sector.
You can ask nice, and let a dictator make deals in the region with your adversarial world superpowers. Or, you take the shite under whatever guise fits the narrative.

I agree with your assessment.

Correct, but it's shitty oil and, due to the shale revolution, the U.S. is rapidly moving away from having an ability to refine it. I think we'd like to have regime change because we don't want hostile regimes in our hemisphere. The reason that the U.S. is so safe and secure, from a geopolitical/military perspective, is because we have buffers. While Venezuela itself could never pose a significant threat, they could invite others (Russia, China, Iran) in who could.

China is getting a string foothold there
Posted on 10/2/25 at 9:36 am to GumboPot
Because they are a violent and repressive Communist/ socialists regime that openly supports our biggest enemies that took the best economy in the history of South America and turned it into a shitshow that caused millions of its citizens to head north, maybe?

The statement in the query is incorrect.
Venezuela holds the largest proven oil reserves in the world, estimated at 303 billion barrels as of 2023, which accounts for approximately 17.5% of global proven oil reserves.
Saudi Arabia ranks second with 267.2 billion barrels, representing about 15.4% of the world's total.
Therefore, Venezuela has a larger share of global oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, not 18% and 16% as suggested.

And we’re looking to cut that string.

Part of evaluating reserves is the certainty of recovery.
Venezuela has 1P reserves, which has a 90% or greater recovery score. This is the highest of the reserve scores.
