Why didn’t Trump and Republicans get the wall built when they had control?

I’m curious why the #1 election issue was put on hold until Dems got the House.

So this question could be asked daily on TD of course.

Because congress was scared of losing in 2018 so they just laid low

Yeah, I don’t come here any more. Echo chamber and all. What’s the short version?

I think the better question is “If it was an “emergency,” why did it take more than two years to declare it as such?”

This has been asked so many times on here that I feel an answer should be pinned to the top of the board.

Another ban. Stop being obtuse and contrarian. Idiot.

It's called letting your opponents hang themselves.

Why would they be scared of losing if that issue carried Trump to victory?

Because when Paul Ryan is speaker, the dems control Congress

We need a board for this.

How many Senate votes does the GOP have today? More than 60, right?
For solely political reasons, Trump held off on using the NEA when the GOP held the House. If you make a move for partisan political reasons, it simply was NOT an actial “national emergency.”

I want a wall. I hope it gets done. I hope it’s not done in a way that will expand executive powers, though. Heaven knows we don’t need more of that.

bullshite
He exhausted every avenue.
The democrats' behavior made it a national emergency. One party that demonstrably and undeniably wants wide open borders is a national emergency. He proved it over the last 2 years. Democrats have been lying about wanting "border security" all along. There behavior obviously refutes that.

Why the republicans controlled the house, they needed 60 votes in the Senate to pass wall funding. They were 8-9 votes short and no democrats would support it.
