Jesus, this has been discussed 100 times. You need 60 votes in the Senate not just a majority. Would have never passed and will not ever pass. They are literally doing anything to derail Trump regardless of its good for the country or not. They have lost their minds and shite in the American people all for power.

Because the senate needs 60 votes to end debate on a bill and bring it to an actual vote. We never had anywhere close to the 60 needed to end debate.

Because even some republicans are soft on conservative values when it conflicts with their donors and future income opportunities. There are a ton of those guys (eg Paul Ryan) that thought that their agenda is more important than the agenda of the voters that elected Trump.

It is not unreasonable to think that control of both houses of Congress and the White House should be enough to accomplish a top priority of any administration.

So why not take a stand then, why now?

Didn’t want to make the Repubs look bad?

They could have done it through budget reconciliation, and only needed 50 votes. The truth is they didn't because the wall isn't even very popular with Republicans.

Because trump can't close a deal.

Everything else is excuses.

Let me put this in terms you might understand.

DC=Alabama/REC
Trump is Big 10 refs.

Trump trying to introduce a wall is akin to cutting off their votes/money supply (or favorable calls for a sure win to get a NC).

Can't work a deal with people who are used to the old guard and want things to stay in their favor.

He had a better chance last year than he does now. The GOP had the House and and a bunch of Dem Senators trying to get reelected in red states.

This year you still need to convince Dem Senators, however the vulnerable ones lost reelection last year or were reelected and won't have to face voters for another six years. Not to mention, he has to get Pelosi to sign off on it.

2018 was the perfect time for getting a deal done IMO.

To Trump's credit, he actually did try all of last year to get it done, but failed for several reasons. Mainly because, as I stated above, Republican support was far from unanimous on it.

It escalated over the last month because he knew his last chnace to get it done was before the new House was seated with a Dem majority.

The question to ask is why McConnel and Ryan didn't do more to get wall funding.
