Good luck with getting any massive public projects built with a large footprint.
Environmental payoffs make it take too long and cost too much. Too many hands reaching into the till.
Our overly regulated and litigious society is handicapped.

Our money goes to other countries to build their nice shite.

Why can’t America have bullet trains?
Why can’t we educate young people and truly prepare them for the world that awaits them?
Why is our healthcare so outrageously expensive and financially crippling compared to most everywhere else on this planet?
There are lots of things in my estimation that register significantly higher up on the “Why can’t America” list than bullet trains.

High speed trains are great, but many Americans are not very enthusiastic about rail travel. And that’s unfortunate.
The trains in Europe are fast and convenient .

It would be amazing to have between Dallas and Houston and San Antonio and from Houston to New Orleans but that wouldn’t be as busy

BC Americans can't seem to stop for the trains. There always a story on the news about a car, truck, semi or fire trucks running thru the stops. Or parking on them.

They never tried. They just laundered the money - just like Joe's $42B high speed internet that doesn't have a single rural customer connected.
Now do EV charging stations. All of these type projects are just money laundering schemes for politicians and people connected to them.

Indeed. That misadventure where the SecEnergy was supposed to go on a cross-country tour in an electric car but couldn't complete the trip due to lack of chargers, even when the advance team was running around in a gas-powered car was amusing.

Yep. Old concept.
It's actually a 19th century concept...along with the internal combustion engine.

Either way, old idea.
* Point of fact, while the earliest steam powered trains date back to the early 1800s, the rail system itself is actually several hundred years older.

Smell like Wal Mart Shoppers right?
Trains did well in cities where cars and buses suck. Tokyo was perfect for trains. New York and Chicago the same.

Work culture makes a huge difference, and even at senior level/white collar levels, we’re workaholics. Also our poors spend their money on goods, not travel
That aside, even if you snap fingers and give us high speed rail everywhere and standardize all other variables, our rail demand is far lower. You can get from Paris to the Riviera in under 3 hours. They have cool diverse shite to see in most directions in a short radius. We don’t

Lot of reasons.
1.) It actually makes sense for a few parts of the country, just not the entirety.
2.) IT only works in places like Korea, Japan, and Europe which are all very densely populated and have short distances between major distances. (The route between Tokyo and Osaka for example only takes about 3 hours and passes through an area with over 40 million people.
3.) Most of our rails are privately owned.
