It absolutely isn't this mythical, boogey man "gun culture" - guns have been so demonized over the past 30 or 40 years, you'd think it was plutonium. Around the time of WWII, there was literally no home (except maybe in the densest urban centers) with no gun - old, young, liberal, conservative, black, white, North, South, Midwest, Coastal - EVERYONE had a gun.
The progressives set their sights on them sometime around the Depression, figuring it would be much easier to impose a planned economy and nanny state on a disarmed population. And they've made slow, but steady progress since.

I'm more than happy to admit to being closed-minded in regards to many things. Giving a frick about sociology happens to be one of them. Might I be open-minded by admitting my insular viewpoint? Only a sociologist may be able to accurately ascertain that dichotomy, maybe they can get a grant for it.

I'm not extolling any kind of anguish. Personally, I think this is a good example of how easy it is to rile up politards. But sensivity towards something is not a confirmation of whether or not one is correct in their thinking.
