You simply cannot imply that Lincoln caused the Confederacy, which came into existence BEFORE he became President.

Was SC asked to cede Ft. Sumter, like they had been with the other forts??

The US and Cuba have had an agreement of sorts since the early 1900s concerning Guantanamo - Castro never cashed the rent checks from the US ... and he never tried to get rid of the US presence either.

The governor of SC repeatedly asked Pres. Buchanan to give up Ft. Sumter. There was no such agreement.

Why is this so often overlooked?

Probably because states themselves cited slavery as the linchpin issue.

So, as you've stated, the CSA seceded, organized an army, and started a war "predominantly" over slavery despite the fact that no one had came for their slaves yet and the incoming president had made it very clear that he wouldn't get involved in Southern slavery?

“One section of our country believes slavery is right, and ought to be extended, while the other believes it is wrong, and ought not to be extended. This is the only substantial dispute.” Lincoln, March 4, 1861

Was SC asked to cede Ft. Sumter, like they had been with the other forts??

quote:

Early in the nineteenth century, South Carolina had owned multiple forts, namely Fort Moultrie, Castle Pinckney, and Fort Johnson, but ceded them, along with sites for the future erection of forts, to the United States in 1805.[7] The forts were of questionable military value and costly to maintain, so when asked to cede them, the state complied.[8] This was not the last time that South Carolina would cede forts to the United States; on December 17, 1836, South Carolina officially ceded all "right, title and, claim" to the site of Fort Sumter to the United States.[9]

They ceded the forts so the American people would pay for their upkeep and construction which we did

Im ignorant because you make up sjw bullshite quotes to attribute to me?

My position on the CW, the Confederacy et, Al has nothing to do with the bullshite blm/msm narrative, its exactly the opposite.

The msm/blm retards are screaming about Dixie and the Confederate Monuments because "the White Man" and "Racist Republicans" but the truth is, its their fricking legacy, make them own it

Slavery wasn't technically a racist institution which is a better argument than muh Democrats were the party of slavery.

First, gfy.

I said sjw because you implied i was fighting the "keeping the black man down" narrative.

I again, I dgaf WHY they went to war.

It was DEMOCRATS that created the Confederacy and Started the fricking war, DEMOCRATS.

That's really my only fricking point.

frick Democrats.

-I didn’t say that you just can’t read.

-if you don’t care wtf are you doing arguing about it?

-Muh Democrats neither refutes anything said here or has anything to do with the discussion. Everyone knows what they are. Lincoln was the first republican President so the slavery issue predates the modern parties.

-Yes I agree “frick Democrats”, next time know wtf you’re talking about before you start attacking someone.

I realize I'll be in the minority here but this is a tired argument.

Its ignorant to pretend that party idealogies haven't changed in the last 150 years.

In what later became known as the Cornerstone Speech, Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Democrats still can't accept the will of the people and are still willing to do or say anything for power, so no, not much change

Are we still pretending that many of those against slavery didnt share this exact view?

And also that there weren't Southern black slave owners?

Yes, but from your own quote:

quote:

so when asked to cede them, the state complied

Were South Carolinians not Americans in 1805, or in 1836?

Because race and confederate imagery is being heavily used as political capital at the moment and this keeps people from being objective about historical events.
