Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm dumb, you're the smartest person in the room, and we're all absolutely enthralled by your intelligence. In fact, we all pray to God every night that our children will wind up being just half as intelligent as you are.

Now, with your need for a pissing contest out of the way, answer my question.

I honestly don't know how to answer a question like that.

If you understand anything about foreign policy strategy it seems so self-evident I don't know what to say.

Let me ask you a few questions and maybe we can get somewhere that way.

Does it not trouble you that you are siding with Marxists (the protestors in this country) against a democracy? Not only a democracy, but the only democracy in that region? Why wouldn't we support Israel on that basis alone?

Does it not trouble you that you are siding with a group that everyone acknowledges has a horrific record of human rights violations? That's who you confidently asserted earlier today on the other thread were obviously the good, cooperative guys in this conflict.

You might as well be one of those college students as invested as you are in this debate.

Why?

I understand their mindset. Can trace if all the way back to Frantz Fanon.

If you're telling me I'm wrong about yours, then explain it to me. Why?

For about a third of 1% of the federal budget, why wouldn't we support a democracy with whom we have a decent relationship in the middle of an important region in the world where we have NO. OTHER. ALLIES.

You tell me why that's not a bargain and maybe we can move the discussion along that way.

EDIT: I was way wrong. We don't send Israel anywhere near 1/3 of 1% of the Federal budget. It's more like 8% of 1%, or .0008 of the Federal Budget.

Why? You seem so adamant about it being true.

This just makes it sound like you haven't examined your belief.

I'm not siding with anyone. Why is everything so black and white for you on this issue? I also don't attribute some sort of special quality to "democracy". There's nothing sacred about it.

Again, I'm not siding with anyone, but it's laughable if you think Israel has a stellar record of human rights. They literally gained their independence in part by committing acts of terrorism.

If you feel so strongly about Israel, you should move there

Because the flavor of a generation is climate change propaganda, victims are brown, and oppressors are white. Anytime a brown person loses at anything, its because of colonialism, systemic racism, or climate change.

Its really that simple.

O.k.,

I didn't think you'd have an answer and you don't.

My answer, if you need to me state something this obvious, is that I'll bet we get a whole lot more useful intel from Israel about Iran and anybody else we're having terrorist problems with at any given moment than we do Iraq or Egypt or Jordan, what you want to bet?

The last attack on Americans on American soil was a terrorist attack instigated by radical Muslims from exactly that region of the world. Who knows how many more we've intercepted and foiled since then, and how knows how many of them have been due to intel provided by Israel?

You want a reason? There's a clearly articulated reason. It's not the only reason, of course, but I'm only willing to spend my time stating so much of the obvious.

quote:

I'm not siding with anyone. Why is everything so black and white for you on this issue?

Come on. I thought you wanted to have a real discussion about this. You are literally the person who earlier today stated that Palestine was the cooperative party in the two state clash and Israel was the party that was responsible for the fact that they can't agree. Apart from being a patently ridiculous and obviously false statement, it's clearly taking a black and white position. Why are you acting like I'm any more partisan that you in this discussion?

quote:

it's laughable if you think Israel has a stellar record of human rights.

I'm not sure you understand what I mean by human rights record. I'm talking about the fact that in Palestine you get thrown off a building for being gay. I'm talking about the fact that it is illegal in the Gaza Strip or women to not wear a hijab. I'm talking about the fact that women have few legal rights in Palestine and are still subject in some places to involuntary circumcision (khafd). I'm talking about the fact that citizens have no freedom of assembly or speech. None of that is true of Israel. I'm talking about the fact that the entire international community recognizes these violations of human rights as well as violating international law regarding torture and unlawful killing.

And yes, Israel has been guilty of terrorism and human rights violations in the context of resisting Palestine as well, as I stated in the other thread I referenced earlier. However, an honest assessment of the facts IMO has to come to the conclusion that Palestine has been far worse far more often, at least in the last 60 years, and certainly since Hamas became the governing authority in 1988.

And again... THEY DON'T HATE THE UNITED STATES.

Again, I don't know why I have to state something so obvious, but that's why Israel being a democracy matters. Hamas hates our entire way of life. Israel doesn't.

How does it benefit us to side with Hamas? (Which refusing to support Israel is basically doing).

How is that "America First?"

quote:

I'm telling you that you're wrong about mine.

Yeah, but you're also telling me you're not taking sides, which is objectively false given your own posting history, and you're not explaining anything about your mindset.

So my mind has yet to be changed.

Why are y'all so dumb?

I feel like the United States should support Israel because it benefits the United States, where I do live.

“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel.”

“In Israel, death has no dominion over them… With gentiles, it will be like any person – they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money.

Oh, I see.

You are simply anti-Semitic.

I left that group out of my original post. Totally forgot that y'all existed.

Many of them are doing it because they are being paid to do so. Many of the rest are doing it because hey.... it seems to be the thing to do... A VERY, VERY small percentage of the rest are doing it because they truly believe Israel is in the wrong.

Because Palestinians are browner and poorer. Israelis are the “white people of the Middle East”

That’s literally all it is.
