re: Why are police even standing for this abuse?

If their ego’s are so fragile that they will go on strike because of criticism and the demand to be held accountable, they probably shouldn’t be roaming the streets with a gun in the first place.

They shouldn’t be asking everyone they pull over in a bad neighborhood to search their car
Even if the driver appears drunk or high?

Not allow officers to move to another police force after they are fired by the one they work at.
I agree but there a laws and lawsuits to consider as well as termination agreements in some cases that actually prevents an employer from divulging that information.

Body cameras should be required to be worn and turned on at all times.
Haven't we pretty well been down this road. Was there not body cam footage avaialable?

Police departments across the country should be required by law to report to the federal database when they kill a suspect (right now it’s voluntary)
Why? Most states have an State agency that investigates police shootings and killings. Why would a conservative want to add to the Federal Government?

Increase requirements in order to become a police officer and increase their training in deescalation.
You act like they don't already get this training. although, I can agree, up the pay and make the requirements more stringent.

End or drastically reduce “proactive policing”
Really? Stop and frisk actually worked in NYC to quell the crime problem. They should just sit around until someone calls them?

Treat drug addiction as a health crisis and not as a crime.
LMAO and it always gets back to this for some reason.

If someone is having a mental health crisis a dude showing up with gun isn’t making that situation any better.
So, you think counselors on call is the answer? And earlier, you were advocating for doing away with the police, which is stupid from the get go.

At least go on strike or something, yeah?

It’d probably take them 20 minutes to get there and then tell me they’ll open an investigation and my shite will never get found anyway
Sounds like you're blaming the cops rather than the robber.
That's nice.

Maybe this will be what it takes to wake LE up to the fact that they have no business enforcing leftist tyranny via unconstitutional executive orders. Maybe they will recognize that their very existence is largely attributable to people who actually believe in the rule of law, and the Constitution above all else.

So as a conservative you’re okay with breaking people’s constitutional rights as long as it works?

I did not say that I was but I pointed to a program that worked to quell crime in a city that was out of control. You are advocating for the cops to just sit around and wait on a call when their presence actually prevents a lot of crimes from happening.
I'll ask you again, you just want them to wait until someone calls them?
Posted on 6/8/20 at 1:36 pm to The Maj
Yes but we also probably disagree strongly on what should be considered a crime in America.

What does that have to do with the presence of LE within the community?
Posted on 6/8/20 at 1:46 pm to The Maj
Yes I want them to sit and wait to be called. They’re presence does not deter crime because guess what I’ll just go to the next street over where there isn’t a cop and commit the crime.

It doesn’t? Prove it.
Vox as we all know is so conservative says you are wrong.

In a 2005 paper, Jonathan Glick and Alex Tabarrok found a clever instrument to measure the effects of officer increases through the terrorism “alert levels” that were a feature of the early to mid-aughts. During high-alert periods, the Washington, DC, police force would mobilize extra officers, especially in and around the capital’s core, centered on the National Mall. Using daily crime data, they found that the level of crime decreased significantly on high-alert days, and the decrease was especially concentrated on the National Mall.

So, we need a cop on every street then?

What level of training do you think would be required to be able to identify this stuff with your naked eye while still preserving individual liberty?

How hard is it to see blood shot eyes, hear slurred speech, see erratic driving, smell alcohol or weed, see 12 bags of Cheetos?
I think even you could do all that.

I would like to see a legitimate source that found that this was actually responsible for a reduction of crime in New York.
Bloomberg himself will claim it worked but he is defending his own decision to enact this type of policing.

Are you suggesting that one of those things existing should be the basis for search and seizure?
Posted on 6/8/20 at 1:57 pm to catholictigerfan
Sure if you have a cop on every corner it’ll reduce “crime” but that is neither practical nor possible in America.
