And none of it would justify treating those boats or their occupants as armed combatants, subject to targeting on site without any warning or need to demonstrate hostile intent.

And if they’re not able to be classified as enemy combatants, then the extra-judicial killing of them on-site for criminal acts (smuggling drugs) without any due process is nothing short of murder.

And I’m not even worried about drug smugglers, per se. I worry about the precedent these legal opinions set.

What’s to keep democrats in 2050 from declaring MAGA “domestic terrorists” subject to targeting?

Their bosses are labeled terrorists working for said terrorists makes you guilty by association therefore a valid target. Think every enemy kill in the Middle East was wearing a uniform?
