What a shitty example of sports being intertwined with politics Someone running for office showed up at to a stadium with 80,000 voters in it?

And comparing it to the actual university lighting up hallowed Tiger Stadium in George Floyd's high school colors and emblazoning Black Lives Matter on all school boards throughout all of the athletic complexes.

But, same/same.

When people have to reach so hard to present a presumed premise (that politics has somehow always been involved in sports and that this is not a new phenomenon) you know how bullshite the premise must be.

American sports really have screwed themselves badly. It's interesting to see how some want to try and pretend THAT premise away.

I'm so torn as my 12 yo son has grown to love sports.

Being a 3rd generation LSU graduate. I HATE LSU for putting me in this position. I cannot have him growing up getting messages that white people are inherently racist and systemic racism is the root of all problems. As that message is total bullshite.

If it wasn't for my son I would be totally done with all sports at this point. But for his sake I feel I need to continue my season tickets for a while because I can't seem to bring myself to give it all up for his sake.

frick you LSU for pulling this shite, I will never forgive you.

LSU football has always been one of the great passions of my life. Going to games with my dad as a kid when we consistently sucked and not missing a game in 30+ years is not something I could ever just abandon.

My 2 year old son is starting to say “geaux tigers” when he sees anything LSU related and it just melts my heart.

When LSU isn’t playing, it’s much easier now not to watch, but—while I might get slammed for this on the poli board—the experience of being raised a Tiger fan, and now raising one of my own, is something I can’t easily part with.

Thing is...you're literally describing the exact same thing most of us here feel...unless you're under the impression you're some super duper fan compared to everyone else. I don't think any of us here easily parted with any of it. I would have NEVER thought I could walk away, until I sat back for a minute and realized that I wasn't giving anything up...LSU had abandoned me. I did not change...they did. And they expect me to continue to pay for them to play a game despite them openly telling me they dislike me for my immutable characteristics.

I still love what I used to love about LSU athletics, but it's just not that any more. It's similar to still loving the home you grew up in, but my family has not owned that home for 18 years now and the new family completely remodeled. I love the MEMORY of what it was, but if I kept showing up there time and again under the impression that it was going to feel the same as it did when it was what I remembered, I'd be kidding myself and honestly prolonging the pain of having to eventually let it go.

My two sons largely grew up in our seats in Tiger Stadium and I'll cherish those memories, but that's all they are now for me.

You are of course free to do as you please, but just remember there is nothing inherent "special" about your situation that we also did not go through.

I haven't watched ANY sports since last summer's BLM activism, and in some cases, prior to that... they can all go broke, and I hope they do.

Take him to watch the local high school teams where the kids actually give a shite about the school and each other

Have not seen a game since March 2020. Have not checked a score either. I don't think I could have done it without the double whammy covid insanity tagged with "we won't play in a state with *that* flag"...

I love me some SEC foot especially Auburn but I don't think I can watch them play anymore as I am sickened and ashamed at the changes that have taken place.

Why? They don't even know you exist. If you were suddenly sick, they wouldn't know. What do you get if the win a national championship? To scream a bit and then realize, "I didnt do that, what am I excited about?" Their accomplishments don't reflect on you and only people with a limited sense of self think they do.

Take your boy out to do something active where the accomplishments are your own.

frick’em. It’s an old clichè on the Rant but there’s some truth to this old adage:

- Sure you love LSU, but does LSU love you.

I used to say what a dumbass, of course they appreciate my contributions.

Ok, you don’t get it. That’s fine. The other poster who responded, while not in agreement, at least got it.

Man, I've been so tuned out of sports I've forgotten to even think about watching them.

Once sports went from entertainment to a virtue signaling fest it was easy for me to stop caring since I no longer considered it entertainment

I get sick of it too and I think athletes, franchises, athletic departments, etc. are too easily duped by slanted misinformation and propaganda.

But I have to ask, isn’t a “virtue signaling fest” kind of what this thread is?

I completely forgot that the LSU spring game was on tv last Saturday. When I remembered about it on Saturday night, I was not upset at all that I had missed it. And I have been a HUGE LSU fan for over 60 years!!!

I got it. Grew up listening and watching the Saints since the 1970's. I had season tickets from 1997 until last Friday.
