Treaty obligations and/or an act of war against American soil/property. We are not obligated to defend Taiwan as things stand. But China isn’t itching to find out either. They are fully aware of what our navy and air force could do to an invasion fleet. That threat is why they’ll take Taiwan without even needing to invade. To keep the Nazi theme, it will be their Anschluss.

I get it, but it’s not.

i agree. but the war should have been to setroy anything and everything that could hurt us, no holds barred and then been out. No country building, doesnt fricking work.

when they attack a country we have a treaty with or us personally.

The only war worth declaring since WWII in my mind was the War in Afghanistan. If I call for war I look at them as a catastrophic worldwide threat that has the power to enslave or destroy humanity. That is what we’re up against when it comes to China. They are a much stronger country than the Soviet Union ever was. They are the 21st Century’s Nazi Germany.

not even fricking close. not in any shape or form. That are just as evil, but not even close to what those countries where. they have zero force projection. none.

Actually you’re wrong there. We do have a written agreement with Taiwan to defend them from invasion. We don’t have with Ukraine though.

China just commissioned a 2nd carrier with a third on the way soon. If they push out a 4th in the next 3-5 years, be concerned if you are Taiwan and the Philippines and by extension Indonesia.

Not true. We have a very loose treaty to provide them with the means to defend themselves. There is no longer any obligation at all for boots on the ground.

this and its what we should do. If we want to do more, we use our subs to form an embargo. no more than that.

In the previous decade I did a lot of business in Taiwan. The Taiwanese people are great to do business with in electronics manufacturing. They are diligent workers, good quality, reliable, very honest by China standards. I made a lot of good friends over there, although I was a bit put off by some of the food I had to eat over there. It was not unusual to see a big roach run across a table in a restaurant
The air quality in parts of Taipei is dirty, so people wear face masks because of air pollution (not Covid). On balance, Taiwan is lovely mountainous island nation. Taiwanese people love the USA. For China to take over would be an awful event. Not a good thing in it for anyone. China would screw it up and murder a lot of good people just like everything else they touch.

China will not take Taiwan by force unless there’s a catalyst of some kind.

They are playing the long game to take it over from within, as with Hong Kong.

Am I missing something? Or is all this talk of a Chinese invasion within this decade just nonsense?

You mean like their three aircraft carriers?
