Yes it does matter. Science and math should be focused on content. English on reading and writing. History is just that.
And when a kid accuses you of being racist, so what? He’s a kid. Send him to the administration and set up a meeting with parents and administrators to discuss the situation. You never get into an argument like that with a kid alone.
Teachers need to learn to stay in their lane. Teachers are not social justice warriors, they’re teachers for crying out loud. This applies to all teachers, most of whom are leftists.

I’m in the classroom everyday teaching at a school that is about 55/45 black/white. White teachers are called in regularly because some black student didn’t like something they said and accused them of being a racist.

I was at a business meeting. We walked out for a break. There was a black/white road rage incident happening on Canal Street. Heard one AA tell another lets go help the brother.

two required courses for senior high high school ought to be Reading Comprehension and Statistics. With all the lying/bullshite/data on the internet, folks need the tools to understand right from wrong in Every field of employment.
