Sucks for those responsible to pay back already. Sucks for those who got a degree and good paying job.

Sucks for those graduating this year and in the future

And if it is somehow “going forward”, schools will just increase fees knowing students have an extra $10k of free loans available to them.

How does this actually solve the college affordability crisis, exactly? Would love to hear a Dem explain

I took different jobs than I really wanted because of student loans that I was paying back. I did what was needed to be done. This infuriates me.

Not for private loans

I dont think private loans were ever seriously in the conversation. We’ll see how long it takes these morons with over priced college degrees to figure out their student loan isnt going anywhere.

do you mean the moratorium will not be extended (again) past 8/31 or whatever it is??

That's the rumor. And if it's true, Biden would need to forgive a fair bit more than $10k to offset that news from a political blowback perspective.

Yeah. All of us that acted responsibly, struggled to pay off debts are fricked. Now I have to pay for people's poor decisions.

All this does is just gives colleges another reason to increase tuition costs.

This is all that Dem voters care about.

When you don't actually have to pay for anything, this is what will happen.

I paid mine back. I understood that if I signed and received a loan then I had to pay it back.

If you got a student loan you should have to pay it back even if the degree you got is worthless and you make less than a HS graduate that went to trade school.

This. I used my loans to get an engineering degree. It was a worthwhile investment.

Same, and I was married with kids. Without much help from the financial aid office, I figured out how to get Pell grants and minimized my loan debts.

I have paid back my pell grants in the form of taxes many times over now. That was back in the 80s though, think we were still using beads and clam shells as currency

So, does that mean I get several thousand back? Since I’ve been paying?

Why would you pay loans that aren't accruing interest?

Money borrowed is money owed and when it does not get paid back, there are repercussions. The ultimate lender gets shafted. Why does that not matter?

Because the ultimate lender here is the taxpayer.

It’s no coincidence that college costs have absolutely skyrocketed since the Govt became basically the sole student loan lenders. Banks are basically long out of that business

To pay down the principal more quickly. But from jump, everyone knew that was a bet on or against forgiveness. Anyone who continued making payments on a loan under $10k was betting against forgiveness.

you could have done that without making payments throughout

there's no upside to betting against forgiveness though. should just make one big payment in august.

The government doesn't give productive people ANYTHING

It's the same reason I had no issue with useful businesses taking PPP. Claw back a little of what they take from you and give to the worthless.

Then why is he crying about potential forgiveness now? In fact, he should accelerate payments now so he can get as much paid off before any potential forgiveness hits.

That should have been everyone's plan. While I still don't see how he can actually pull this off, no point in not waiting to find out as long as its at 0%
