A friend I know, long haired rocker and devout is learning Greek so he can read for himself the older writings unedited.

Christian Standard. I have a King Jimmy with commentary, but I’ve always found it exceptionally hard to follow. I used a NIV for awhile, but recently bought a new bible and tried that translation. I like it.

Hard copy ESV but on my bible app I keep a CSB and KJV tab pulled up so I can read them side by side.

It’s not the same text. KJV is solely from the Textus Receptus (received text) and the others are from the Critical Text discovered in the 19th century.

CSB, primary (best “modern translation” IMO)

NKJV, secondary (preacher preaches from KJV)
