There’s a correct answer I’m just curious where people would rank as a US state the GDP of England wales Scotland and Northland Ireland as a State? I’ll give the correct answer after people have had time to have a say

First try!!
Go buy a lotto ticket
Mississippi would be 50th and average a yearly higher income of 17%
In this data set I pulled this from which is quite recent when asked Brits most common guess was 7th
They’re a clown country at the moment

Dead last.
Same as Japan.
ETA: Pretty bad when you don’t even have the luxury of saying “Thank God for Mississippi”, innit?

From Grok:
quote:
The combined GDP of the United Kingdom countries, meaning England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland together, would rank around the 5th largest U.S. state economy if the UK were treated as a single state.
That puts it roughly around or slightly below California and ahead of Texas depending on the exact year and exchange rates used.
Approximate comparisons:
California: about $4.1T GDP
United Kingdom: about $3.7T to $3.9T GDP
Texas: about $2.7T GDP
New York: about $2.3T GDP
So the “correct” ranking is basically:
California
UK
Texas
New York
A lot of people underestimate how large the UK economy still is globally.

Combined GDP isnt GDP per capita baw
A place 12x-15x the landmass of SC is going to have a higher GDP than them.

Well of course they would. One of the biggest component of GDP is governmental spending. No one comes close to us. The UK doesn't have to since we pay them annually.

You're right.,
According to Grok:
quote:
The combined United Kingdom would rank roughly around the middle-to-upper tier of U.S. states on GDP per capita.
Approximate comparison:
UK GDP per capita: around $52k-$55k
U.S. state equivalents:
Around Illinois
Similar to Minnesota
Below wealthy states like Massachusetts, New York, California, Washington
So in state rankings, the UK would probably land somewhere around 15th-25th depending on the exact year and source.
A lot of Americans assume the UK would rank near the top because London is so globally important, but outside southeast England the UK economy per person is much more average by U.S. state standards.

Grok is wrong. I work at a Uni in Georgia as a professor and researcher and im staring at a data from 6 weeks ago. Would you like to see it? Since you dont have access via a job though youll have to pay i think 30$ for the full study but the abstract and thesis should be free

It's embarrassing to think my ancestry is 95% from the British Isles.....maybe that's why my ancestors got the hell out of there in the late 1600's and ended up in the New World.
