via the Chicago Tribune

The recent trip to Venezuela by a group calling itself a Chicago Teachers Union delegation has upset some union members and expats who question the point of the tour and take issue with the group’s praise of the country’s disputed government.

The four travelers, who crowdfunded the July trip under the banner of the CTU, met with Venezuelan government officials and educators, visited a commune and were featured in local media.

They wrote online about wanting to connect with Venezuelan teachers, students and unionists, criticized U.S. economic sanctions against the South American nation and wrote admiringly of its socialism, its communes and high literacy rates.

It's Chicago; they felt safer in Venezuela than at home

Isn’t Chicago’s literacy rate a direct reflection of themselves and their ability to teach?

I don’t have kids, might never have them.

By the time they are my age they’ll be being to sent to government re-education camps, or the antifa gas chambers.

Public schools are indoctrination camps and job creators

For the kids, it's a day prison.

Why wouldn't they go to one of the 83 countries with higher literacy than Venezuela, 55 of which have 99-100% literacy rates? I guess literacy was less important than the socialism.

I'd home school but that seems like way to much work to take on...so guess we will just have to make sure we live in a very Republican district.

Somewhere expensive. Keeps the riff raff out.

Somewhere religious in basis. Keeps me from having to deal with bathroom nonsense.

Somewhere with good academic standards.

I recommend all the above. Not necessarily in that order.

I worked at a middle school last year. I assisted a 7th grader and went to every class with him and I agree with your assessment.
Liberal ideation is injected into a lot of the lessons whether they call for it or not. Plus, all of our students are given Google email accounts and they use Google docs for EVERYTHING! So, I can't wait for 10 or 20 years down the road when they use this info against our kids for whatever conservative stance they might have had when they were 9.

Yeah, pretty sad reflection upon yourself if you're going to a third world shithole to figure out how to teach American kids how to read.

In fact it's an even worse indictment of the education system if you want to compare each country's dollars spent per student to education level.

Depends on what part of the country you live in.
