When will "ventilators don't work and actually cause harm" make it into the mainstream?

I am seeing many reports on-line, obviously anecdotal, that ventilators have a horrible death rate of as bad as 90 percent.

Doctors are saying that they do more harm than good, as this virus does not warrant the same treatment path as other respiratory viruses have in the past.

Are our politicians and media too invested in Muh Ventilators to make this pivot, if it is, in fact, true?

When they can no longer blame Trump for the lack of supply.

That would cause people to die more quickly and make less of a burden on the hospital system. So media wont like it

If the anecdotal evidence is correct (which it may not be, we are just discussing this possibility) then your statement is false.

The Covid Cocktail and no ventilator would be the treatment of choice in most cases.

It’s a more like a blood disorder that leads to respiratory issues. The hemoglobin isn’t binding with the oxygen. Could explain why malaria medication is effective. Treating this like ARDS is killing people.

I don’t believe the ventilators are causing “harm”. They just have a low success rate. When a patient reaches that point it’s near pointless. Also the act of intubation puts so many at risk.

Respiratory failure and pneumonia is killing the person as is their body’s own response to the pneumonia. Deck chairs on the titanic type scenario.

Can I mark you down in the absolutely no vent category if you get sick?

Seems this is proving to not be the case.

I am not in any of the risk categories, so the odds of me needing a vent are almost non-existent.

But that's a childish comment. We are discussing possibilities.

I don’t want a vent if I get this and deteriorate.

For all melting about "false hope" hte media has done exactly that when it comes to ventilators.

Ventilators are a last ditch effort to save someone who is basically going to die for sure because their lungs have completely stopped working.

Sometimes they save the person, but a shite ton of time it makes no difference.

Obviously you want to have them available in case you need them, but the media has convinced people that ventilators will save everyone.

You guys would honestly rather just die from respiratory failure? Unless you're elderly or otherwise terminally ill I don't know why you wouldn't want them to try to save you with a ventilator...

Asking not to be intubated until it is absolutely necessary is different from going completely DNI.

I personally believe if you’re so bad off that you will die even in bipap, the vent is worse than a coin flip, and I’m starting to agree with some that it may actually be harmful

Why? You are pushing forth a theory purely for political purposes that deals with living and dying I’d assume that if you are willing to do that for others you would do that for yourself

Like I said in that thread, the theory doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, and is just based on binding simulations, which are not always very reliable.
