You are correct. Sturgill is a leftist piece of shite, and his last two albums tried too hard. He is a great music producer though. He is the producer for whiskey meyers.

I can't imagine anyone doing "Why Me" any better. The raw, unrefined is what brings the message home.

The bluegrass albums? Would not call that "tried too hard"

Artistic people tend to lean left, just part of the territory. Being great at something like writing songs means being in touch with your feelings, people who dwell on feelings a lot tend to be more liberal.

Also, it's interesting that pretty much everyone in threads like these bashes the new, "popular country", and pushes all these somewhat obscure artists.

The new stuff is selling, those obscure acts aren't so much. So where are the fans of the new stuff?

A dude like Jason Aldean makes money hand over fist. It must be like fast food, everyone claims they hate it but the drive thru is always full.

Dont forget about Zach Bryan. He’s a closeted fig that supports trans rights while also hating on Christians and conservatives.

Clean clean area, great spirit and a drink or 10 at Tootsie’s is a good night . First thing I thought of was French Quarter in the 70’s when you could have a good time without worrying about someone who means harm

Was he the one that got Tyler Childers to do the video with the two figs? I quit listening to Tyler after that video because he sold out to the leftist agenda. If I knew how to post the video I would.

If you’re looking for modern artists who play good country music:

Buddy Andrews
Jamey Johnson
Creed Fisher
Frank Foster
Blaine Roy
Dustin Sonnier

The shite played on the modern country radio stations these days sucks arse.

And he was smart enough and admitted as much. That's why he handed his songs off to the likes of Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, etc. But the "Outlaws" as a foursome could do it and he sang some with them, but he mostly was known for his writing. Personally, I liked his singing but I know it wasn't for everyone.

His Border Lord album from '70 or '71 is a longtime favorite. Maybe a little closer to southern rock than country but worth a listen if you're not familiar with it. Smoky Put The Sweat On Me, Gettin' By (High and Strange), Little Girl Lost are all classics.

He was the first country musician I had heard when I was a little kid back in the 90's. I especially loved his spoken word songs.
