So far from what I understand, LA protests during the lockdown have been small and ineffective.

Assuming JBE announces an extension for 2 More Weeks (TM) or intrusive contact tracing measures, is there any organized plan for a larger protest effort to show we’re fed up with this?

Start one up.... Just goes to show how lazy people in this state are as a whole. We are going to be one of the last to open, yet too many people will just complain online that they are worried about jazz fest or mardi gras. Too many people around here are more worried about culture and partying than real life adult issues that have railroaded this state for decades.

You do realize this is Louisiana right? The lines have been drawn, Either you never missed a day of work since this started and don’t really have time to protest or your loving this stay at home stuff And will protest going back to work.

The problem with anti-lockdown politics is that it offers nothing once the lockdown ends, which it will be over the next several weeks. What then will be said for the millions of people without jobs? What demands will be made then? None.

The anti-lockdown protests should have been coupled with demands for mandatory rehires of those that were laid off or furloughed, and government checks for people until they return to their pre-lockdown income levels. Additionally an immigration moratorium for at least ten years.

The trouble is that the anti-lockdown protests carried with them an unspoken assumption that the status quo prior to lockdown, where people went to work and bought groceries when they chose, meant they were free of system control. The lockdown itself showed this wasn't the case.

Once the lockdown ends, which it will, where will the political energy that was mustered behind this movement go? It will disappear, and we will have a new status quo, except millions of people will be out of work, and there will be no organized advocacy for them.

That’s the problem, I’m just a nobody with no social media and a low TD post count to boot.

I planned on attending one of the original protests, but my wife talked me out of it saying it was planned too quickly and would be ineffective. And it was.

I’m just curious if anyone has seen any stronger sentiments being formed that we need to organize on a larger scale.

I’ve worked every day since this, but I’m more than willing to take a day off for this. Just because I’m working doesn’t mean that is more important than voicing how wrong JBE’s continued shutdown is.

Nice catch! My Louisiana history teacher drilled that into our young heads when we visited the capitol building. I think it was the one question you couldn’t miss if you wanted to go on the field trip.

If he tries to push this further - he's screwed politically

JBE is term limited and resting his balls in the Governor's mansion for 3.5 more years and he's dealing with a GOP supermajority in the senate and two seats shy of that in the house as well.

Unless he takes a shot at John Kennedy for senate in 2022, his political career is at the end of its road.

We're just waiting him out now at this point.

People in Louisiana have been going back to work now for two weeks.
Protest? Nah that’s small time. People in Louisiana will continue to revolt and go back to work even more so if he pushes it back.

We supposedly have support of the legislature, but they seem to be milquetoast and all talk. I fear the waiting him out approach has been the strategy so far, and keeps ignoring the best interests of the people of this state.

At what point does everyone agree we should make a show of support for ending his restrictions? To me, we’re at that point, but what I’m seeing and hearing, maybe the majority if the state doesn't share my opinion. The reason for this thread was for me to gauge where others felt.

I think people "protest" by living their lives and not giving a frick what Sloth says. If a restaurant opens, support them by eating there. If a barber opens, get a haircut. Visit family. God to church. Do what the frick you want. It will embolden more businesses to open up.

He will announce that he is starting phase one.

Like 95% sure. But you never know.

Market the protest using the local culture (not culcha) and do a Mardi Gras style parade of protestors to the capitol with a large tailgate party once everyone arrives.
