when did the over catering to minorites begin?

I think its at its worst now. why cant we all be equal and strive for the same jobs, happiness, etc?
al Sharpton and jesse Jackson have been protesting apple and Microsoft and google to hire more minorities and we have affirmative action.
also on TV I watched a piece where TV cant move fast enough to cater to black viewers. new tv shows, black anchors on news and morning shows.
when did all of this start?
correct me if im wrong, but aren't blacks 13% of the population? shouldn't Hispanics be catered too more if they were going on numbers?

Do you mean when did minorities gain political and economic power against the forces that kept them marganalized and they are tired of it?

It doesn't bother me but it bothers me that they will hire a black person just to please people
My wife is on the school board for a large district and this year they interviewed numerous candidates for a principal position. It came down to two and at the last minute the superintendent said they had to hire a minority so they had to hire someone that wasn't even in their top 2
I don't believe in filling quotas or giving handouts. It leads to a lazy culture

Time for Zach to give some historical context. MLK was not popular among blacks when he was shot. He became very popular after he was shot.
MLK had been replaced by the separatist movement. Black panthers, SNCC, etc. They did not want integration. They wanted autonomy. H. Rap Brown, Stokely Carmichael, Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, etc had replaced MLK.
I was a fan of Carmichael at the time. Very smart guy and excellent orator. He told Tom Hayden (Jane Fonda's boyfriend before Ted Turner) where to stick it when Hayden wanted to merge his white SDS with the black SNCC.
His reasoning was simple. "White people cannot be trusted." Not even if they are fellow communists. Oh, those were the days.

The OP very inartfully makes the case for a more color-blind society where meritocracy trumps racial-identity politics, notes that The Black Grievance Industry seems to be interfering with corporate hiring in a way that is counter-productive and that some tv doesn't try to speak to a broader "American" audience, but rather an Ethnocentric one. OP then wonders why the ethnocentric direction of culture comparatively seems to favor blacks and neglect Hispanics, who after all are becoming a much more sizeable American demographic.
Liberals then go all aflutter and call him racist. Another day in the PT coal mines.
