Like in 'Moderate' Muslim. Pertinent insight from the Good Book: "if ye be neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth".

To each their own.

I wish America was more moderate. Instead of a Trump vs Hilary we could have had a Rand vs Webb to fix this shite Clinton/Bush/Obama created.

If you look at it from the standpoint of governance, rather than ideology, being a moderate makes a lot of sense. The hard partisan divide creates only gridlock, since nobody wants to compromise. And in places where one side significantly outnumbers the other, you have one side steamrolling the other (see California, the Louisiana House, etc).

A moderate seeks and facilitates compromise where it is necessary but might otherwise might be impossible.

Its a mask for being an unprincipled opportunist. Not really any more complicated than that.

Yeah pepe, the unprincipled opportunist parrots whatever the people want to hear. In some places, that's a hard line conservative message and in others a progressive mantle.

Taking a measured "moderate" stance hasn't been paying political dividens lately, so it's hard to call them opportunistic.

I think this board represents much more of society than it actually does. Just because a person voted for trump doesn't make them a right wing extremist like the most vocal on this board.

As is the case with democrats and their far left, the vocal minority gets the press.

For the most part, people fall in the middle. No matter what the posters here believe.

I think a lot of you are confusing "moderate" with "pragmatic." Pragmatic sounds much better.

When you compromise because you can't stand bickering and your compromise is a big pile of shite that kicks the can down the road (perhaps like raising an unruly child that ends up in prison), then you are definitely not pragmatic.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't calling Trump a moderate I was replying to this comment which I quoted at the top of my previous post.

Thanks for the clarification!

What are some of the actions taken by Trump as POTUS that led you to the conclusion of him being unprincipled and an opportunist?

We need more moderates, but we also need to destroy the two party system rule. There's very little hope as long as Democrips and Rebloodlicans are running things.

I can end this thread right now.

Liberals lying about being liberals and calling themselves moderates is the reason moderates have a bad name.

Personally, I am pretty libertarian and lax on social issues but Conservative on most others. In a perfect world that might make me a moderate.

I'd never identify as a moderate, however, because the word moderate has been dirtied.

I'm a Republican and a Comservative. I'll stick with that rather than the horseshoe that liberals do like changing it to progressives which is made up branding.

"Moderates" was a term co-opted by the prog filth left.

It was another way for them to hide who they really are.

Now you have threads like this, where they are mad because it doesnt work anymore.

They are certainly not the same, but both seen as negative due to lacking hardline principles imo.

Just look at the responses to the topic. It's a "war". Liberals bad, and anything short of full throated opposition is enabling the ruination of America. At this point, for the loudest voices in the political discussion there is no such thing as good. There's perfect or there's bad.

I've never seen a self proclaimed moderate on this board in all my years here that wasn't a liberal.

Moderate is a cloak for liberals and no one buys that bullshite.

The wall hasn't even happened yet. Likely never will. Obama also had a travel ban. Clinton cut regulations in '99 (ending Glass- Stegall) which many attribute to the financial crash in '07.

That mindset is why being a "moderate" is frowned upon.
