It would be incredibly stupid if it wasn't a coup. Staging forces around government buildings? That's a two for one right there. General in charge saying, It's my birthday! It's my birthday!

It could be a defensive measure against protests.

We have had air supremacy since day 1 and complete satellite imagery since way before that, there is absolutely no way anyone affiliated with the IRGC is lifting their heads above ground w/o a sortee of C-130 gunships itching to decapitate them.
