Socialism is the means of production and wealth controlled by the government.
Progressivism is the criminalization and persecution of eveyone who does not think, act, and vote the way the government deems appropriate.
Socialism is an economic system. Progressivism is the government means of implementing that system.
They are the left and right hands of the devil.

Socialist re-branded to liberals. Then re-branded again to progressives. And now we are getting Democrat Socialists. There is no difference.

When a word gets a bad rap they change the word. The USSR ruined the word socialism for the left so they went to 'liberal.' The word 'liberal' has come to mean POS commie bastard moron. Therefore, liberals switched to 'progressive'. The word 'progressive' will someday mean POS commie bastard moron. Then, they will change to something new.
It's the same reason they changed 'global warming' to 'climate change' when winter kept getting cold like it always does.

They change the meaning to obfuscate and expand appeal and usage.
An example...
During WW1 some soldiers succumbed to Shell Shock.
By WW2 they changed the term to Battle Fatigue, for the condition, and expanded it to include people with basic cowardice.
Now the term has become PTSD. It now includes all snowflakes.

Progressives as defined by Saul Alinsky are only for power. Alinsky’s famous quote was “the issue is never the issue. The issue is always Power.”

Well, the 3rd way was actually a strategy later called triangulation. It goes like this:
1. Clinton proposes free everything for everybody.
2. The GOP Congress won't pass it.
3. As a result of that defeat the economy improves.
Clinton can then claim:
To the liberals: 'Hey, I tried to give you free stuff but the mean old republicans stopped it.'
To the public: 'Hey, the economy has been great due to my sound policies.'
