What would a totally free market education system do to serve people who can't even afford their own food?
this is why I am not a libertarian, fwiw. I would say that our public education is only around because of the IMMENSE amount of wealth created by capitalism. Without all the taxes taken out of the private markets, education could not be funded. But yes, libertarians have no answer to the question you put forth.

I will say this, however. My friend went on a social worker trip to chad, and he said that virtually all of the schools were private, and they seemed to serve most of the kids in the area.

I think you can be libertarian and support public schooling in some form. That's what I am. Obviously you need a society where people can read and write. That said, I think you can also be libertarian and not support the system as it exists today.

why?

fewer people could afford an education. it would also create more of a need for some form of child labor as schools are daycare for poor people while their child is young. This would lead to us figuring out someway to put them to work , well at least the poors ones.

That is dubious. We can't figure out ways to get them jobs after we spend tens of thousands on public education. Who has a plan to employ them if they are even less educated?

They are pretty much of no value to a functional society no matter what we do. Why waste money on a fruitless task?
