So poor people do - or don't - care about education?
by and large? don't
that's one of the reasons they end of poor and their kids end up poor. it's a big part of the lower class mentality
quote:
So is it harder or easier to education these kids?
it's always harder to educate kids who refuse to listen or don't value learning anything

why?
Their parents have fewer resources (in money and/or their time) to aid in their education, and they more frequently have to deal with all of the problems that tend to correlate with poverty - crime, drug abuse, not having two participating parents, etc.

my mom used to teach in an urban school and had some issues, but a few years ago she and i were in a supermarket and ran into a teacher who used to teach with her back then...and basically "the community" begged him and a few other retired, black/male teachers to go back to help with all of their issues
My student teaching was done in an alternative program full of at risk kids. Great teachers reduced to basically begging the kids to not drop out. Most were from single parent households, never saw most of the parents.
Kids signed a contract stipulating goals and behavior. The contract was bullshite, the idea was to keep their arse in a seat.

Do you have any evidence to support that assertion?

Your "blame the children" mentality has surely changed how I view you as a person.

Tell me do you have any experience dealing with these students?
No. I just went to a public school for 5 years. But I don't have to meet a child to know they aren't personally responsible for the quality of anything that others provide for them.

4-8.

the mass of data displaying their academic performance notwithstanding?

because i feel bad for the kids who get fricked by these kids? it's basically the only socio-political issue that will make me legit angry. i've known plenty of these kids personally in my life and it angers me to know that their future was robbed from them by ignorant pieces of shite
these are the kids who i grew up around. most are at least moderately intelligent. i see them working the shittiest of shite jobs b/c they were denied a chance at an education b/c the system protected the kids who destroyed the learning environment
i don't see how anybody can defend them, but feel free to continue to do so

How long ago? Were you exposed to inner city schools and the students?

i went to a public school grades 3-12
i grew up in an urban area

i know plenty. it's what i lived as a child

So the reason the poor are uneducated is because they don't care about education, and the evidence they don't care about education - is that they aren't educated.
Is that your circular reasoning?

because i feel bad for the kids who get fricked by these kids?
I thought the "norm" was "these kids" ?

Do you think the economy would no longer need to employ someone in those shitty jobs if they had gotten a better education?

I'm not, but thanks for lying again.

Poor people don't pay very much - if anything - in taxes.

I don't see how its fair to blame children for the educational opportunities provided or not provided to them. According to SFP poor kids can't get educated because of the other poor kids cutting up in class - but its still their fault, except for the ones he knows with shitty jobs - or, I dunno, nevermind hard to figure that guy out.
Does the adult in your fricked world bear any responsibility for the education of the child or is it all on the child's head?

pretty much...have you ever even been to a ghetto or trailer park before for any meaningful amount of time?

Is that your circular reasoning?
i never claimed there wasn't data...i just don't have any (other than masses of anecdotal evidence)
quote:
I thought the "norm" was "these kids" ?
it is. that doesn't mean there aren't still good kids who have their futures destroyed by the disruptive, ignorant assholes to whom the system caters
quote:

most of these jobs could be automated...and will be within the next decade. we don't need fast food workers or gas station clerks in an automated society

And you'd have been better off if there had been no public school and instead you worked in a coal mine?
