When a 60 year old black man at work, who hated Trump last go around, came up to me and told me he and his wife were voting Trump this time. Also, my 55 year old uncle who's never voted in his life, would walk barefoot over broken glass to vote this year.

Don't incumbent presidents generally run unopposed in their own party's primary?

Sometimes they get challenged.

Reagan challenged Ford in 1976 - nearly beat him and left him so battered and bruised he put zero effort into his general re-election bid.

Teddy Kennedy seriously challenged Jimmy Carter in 1980 because at that point the Democrats knew Carter was ineffectual and likely to lose but Ted couldn't get the power-broker support because of Chappaquidick.

Pat Buchanon challenged Bush from the right in 1992, in the process gave critics ammo to weaken the base and inspired Ross Perot to launch a 3rd party reform movement - a double edged sword for Bush, who was scandal free and had a 90% approval rating the previous year.

But it's a chicken/egg scenario - successful Presidents don't get challenged and weak ones who do wind up having a harder time in the general.

2016 was pretty close to a landslide.

A 306-232 Electoral College victory was "pretty close to a landslide?"

Nearly every single presidential election of the past hundred years (with the exception of the two Bush Jr. elections) was won by a larger margin than that.

In other words, 2016 was one of the narrowest electoral outcomes in modern U.S. history.

While it was no landslide, Trump got more EVs than Kennedy, Nixon and Carter when they won.

After the SOTU speech in 2018.

It was never in doubt.

Bloomberg
Mayor Pete
Bernie

Any of them had a glimmer of hope. The only one that had a zero chance was Biden

This. Social Distancing, masks, Shutdowns of everything, shortages of common products, fear magnified......

Then came George Floyd. and the new rules didn't apply anymore because of "racism". These people aren't going to get the Kung flu and die because "racism".

These A*hats overplayed their hand. Now, every common man/woman who doesn't follow politics has had their life uprooted, but "rasism" makes it all disappear.

There is going to be Hell to pay. And Trump is still the hammer to their system of power.
