Fair enough, but that's what it sounded like. And to clarify, I knew both people before and after their injuries, I served in the same unit with the llB and alongside the AF troop. I knew all 4 people in the lead humvee and 3 out of the 4 in the trail; they just got their teeth rattled and some nasty headaches. These aren't 2 bubbas I met in a bar who said "lemme tell ya about my time in the desert".

So yeah, if you went out into the theater you were in danger regardless of how safe your job description might sound. And frick a couch commando who thinks he needs to try to denigrate someone's service in a feeble attempt to score a political point. Go after the guy who started the troll thread if you need to, not the guy who just did his job in a shitty part of the world.

I was in the Navy Seabees,,50 months on active duty and the active reserves for 2 years.
Navy asked for volunteers twice for Viet Nam and I volunteered. To be clear they never called me which I don’t understand, maybe they had more volunteers than they needed.

As I,got older and educated myself I say Viet Nam,Afghanistan, both Iraq wars were bullshite, only real purpose was to enrich the Military Industrial Complex.
The first Iraq war was to avoid the scandal of George HW Bush’s son Neil Bush and his significant role in the Silverado Savings and Loan failure that cost the taxpayer $1.3 billion.
It was all in the news,we’re going to Iraq and Silverado S&L dropped off the radar.
So DeSantis served his country by going to Iraq, big frickin deal.He was in harm’s way,I guess, and for sure was probably breathing the polluted air from the infamous burn pits.Lots of servicemen had their health wrecked by the burn pits.

From my perspective now I would say Trump,Clinton and even George W. were the smart ones to avoid that crap.
George W.pissed me off,he weaseled his way out of Viet Nam but he had no reservations about sending our serviceman to be killed and maimed in support of the MIC.

I don’t regret my service.I grew up,learned a lot and GI bill helped me go to college.
It gave me a leg up in life but from where I came from I needed it.

Trump and Clinton didn’t need it so good for them.

I’ll be a son of a bitch if any of my grandsons,if I can help it,join this fricked up military with “”woke” officers glorifying transgenderism, drag queen story hours at base libraries, etc.
You know Senior Military officers are just itching to get us into some conflict to feather their nests. They couldn’t care less about the him/hers that get killed or maimed to further their agenda.

Yes.

I'm sure DeSantis had a government issued rifle and he had to keep track of that weapon but I don't believe DeSantis ever engaged the enemy in a firefight.....seems he was the legal counsel for a combat unit to ensure captured enemy combatants were treated properly

As the only lawyer with the task force, DeSantis made sure detainees captured by SEALs during their missions were treated humanely. He also ensured that interrogations complied with the Geneva Conventions and US military law

I got stuck in a datacenter at Bragg and a month later 9/11 happens. Fun fact: right around this time was when the Army went to the black beret and my luck I end up in the only leg unit at Bragg.

I dunno if it's a blessing or a curse. I won't lie, the propaganda worked on me and I wanted to go but the unit I was in wasn't deployable. Needs of the Army and all that.

“Not everyone that served is honest about their service”

Ain’t that the truth.I worked with a murse that went to nursing school. Was a 20 year retiree from Army.
He said one day lot of bad asses in Ellick, every veteran I talk to was Special Forces or a sniper.

A friend from high school was prime example. He was in Navy got out in ‘72 but to this day he tells everybody he was a sniper in Marine Corps. What’s bizarre was he was on Patrol Boats in Viet Nam which was nothing to sneeze at,it was very dangerous.
His story is he joined the Navy but he was such a good shot the Marines were able to get him transferred to be a sniper.

Almost certainly not; so what? You asked if he was in a foreign country carrying a weapon and he was. What weapon did you carry when you were in Iraq?

Trumptards are particularly disgusting in this thread. The shite you guys will upvote & downvote.....

Give me a break. Nobody expects a JAG officer to be in a firefight. They are extremely valuable in the field, however. I mean, people don't want to be brought up on war crimes, you know?

As someone who has served, I can attest that some of the biggest pieces of shite I’ve known were military. Being in the military doesn’t promote special powers that makes you great or even mediocre, it simply means you’re in the military. It’s no more special than being a plumber or electrician.

I was wondering what type of service Desantis did while in the military. It seems he was a lawyer/JAG assigned to a task force to monitor the treatment of prisoners. The American people thank him for his service.

I never served in the military, how about you?

You didn’t know prior to this? Really? It’s on his wiki page and it’s been discussed here too many times to count. And now you’re saying “it seems he was a lawyer”?

GTFO.

Most Americans do appreciate the service commitment of all who served in the military but simply serving in the military isn't some qualifier to be president and it certain doesn't mean you're a particularly honorable person, not anymore.

I’m a Desantis supporter and your OP is pathetic and does nothing except cause more unnecessary division in the GOP

I haven't read any type of bio on Desantis and I certainly don't read all the drivel in these Trump vs Desantis threads, I honestly had no knowledge what DeSantis did while serving in the Navy other than he was JAG.
