It’s not that kids needed the belt — they needed parents who actually taught self-discipline and what happens when you screw up. Fear isn’t the same as learning responsibility.

Remember when kids got participation trophies? They are adults now.

So, the complete loss of community plays no role in how younger generations have developed?

I didn’t say that. But I think that the loss of local communities and the poorer upbringing of children have some similar causes, notably that mothers aren’t staying home. My wife did stay home with the little children. That alone didn’t fix the community issues, but it helped mightily with the children's’ upbringing.

As a generalized stereotype, they've been indoctrinated and told what to think -- rote learning and safe-spaces, rather than being educated as to how to think -- focus on logic and open-debate.

When they see things which undercut their memorized, engrained information (e.g., it turns out that MAGA is demonstrably not fascist), they're severely stressed trying to make sense of it. They lack foundational analytical tools to analyze and/or reassess positions. So they sort of bite their nails awaiting a same-think someone whom they trust to pass on an explanation which they can memorize.

Critical in the indoctrination is the Marxist Critical Theory precept that all is beyond their control. e.g., American Exceptionalism is dead, You have it rougher than any of your American predecessors, Your woes are Boomers' fault, etc.

Raising children happens within communities, we no longer have that.

Thanks to baby boomers divorcing at high rates, we don’t even have two parent households much less communities.

Pretty much isolated with constant cellphone use. Severe lack of actual communication with family and friends. Text, text, text instead of talk. Then off to liberal college brainwashing. Snowflakes.

here's a poem that describes todays problems perfectly:
quote:

A wise son hears his father's instruction,
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

From the fruit of his mouth a man eats what is good,
but the desire of the treacherous is for violence.

Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

The righteous hates falsehood,
but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.

Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless,
but sin overthrows the wicked.

One pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

The ransom of a man's life is his wealth,
but a poor man hears no threat.

The light of the righteous rejoices,
but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

By insolence comes nothing but strife,
but with those who take advice is wisdom.

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself,
but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,
to turn one away from the snares of death.

Good sense wins favor,
but the way of the treacherous is their ruin.

Every prudent man acts with knowledge,
but a fool flaunts his folly.

A wicked messenger falls into trouble,
but a faithful envoy brings healing.

Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction,
but whoever heeds reproof is honored.

A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul,
but to turn away from evil is an abomination to fools.

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Disaster pursues sinners,
but the righteous are rewarded with good.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.

The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food,
but it is swept away through injustice.

Whoever spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite,
but the belly of the wicked suffers want.

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannise their teachers.”

This graffiti was found on the walls in Pompeii, from 79AD.

Everyone always thinks the current youth are a problem.

So, I know someone who was on this.
Yes, ADHD medication, changes people.
They have different personalities.

I believe ADHD medication has changed a lot of people and not for the better.

Same with hormonal birth control. It makes women attracted to soy boys. Married women get off of it to have a child and discover they don’t like their cuck husband and leave him to go get a real man

More people need the Bible than leftists indoctrination. That would be a good start.

Hmmm….lets see….

9/11
War on Terror
2008 economic collapse
Obama
Alabama winning too many natties
Media fear mongering about Trump
COVID
George Floyd Riots

Did I forget anything? Since the turn of the 21st Century we went from high optimism in the 1990’s to a constant state of fear and pessimism in America.
