I understand arguing that because the government can legally detain and deport her, it should. To claim this isn’t a punishment is dishonest.

It’s not punishment. She’s here illegally. Iran would not tolerate you staying in their country 40+ years illegally.

Why don’t you and the other leftists just come out and say you want open borders? Just be honest about your policy prescription.

It’s not punishment she had her day in court and the application was denied.

When we talk about getting illegal immigration under control, we are not talking about people that have done everything the right way, contribute to society, and have been allowed to stay for 50 years

How do you know she’s done everything the right way? She’s supposedly married. Why doesn’t she have a green card?

How do you know this is obviously an act of cruelty?

Arresting a person while she is gardening and detaining that person in another state is not an act of charity.

And she was told she could stay so long as she checked in, which apparently she has been doing.

She was told that if she adheres to certain conditions, she could stay in the country. She adhered to those conditions.

How do you know it’s cruelty? If she’s done something illegal, who gives a shite what she was doing when detained? That is only pertinent to pull at heart strings.

So, if I ever have legal issues, I should grab the trowel and Miracle-Gro and I'll be fine?

Federal officials granted her a reprieve to stay in the country provided she follow the law and appear at regular immigration appointments

What was the mechanism for this reprieve.

I've never heard of something like that built into immigration law.

Your side screams for “due process.” When we give them “due process,” you still scream.

This broad had 2 appeals to the US Fifth Circuit and got to stay here for 40+ years despite having no legal right to do so.

The only cruelty is that she wasn’t deported in 1981.

This is Trump's America now, being a cruel a-hole is in vogue.

Playing this bullshite with a 64 year old woman who did everything immigration authorities asked.

Trumps's America is all about cruelty. That's what I voted for.

Illegal immigrants = subhuman

It looks like you agree this is cruel unless she’s done something illegal that we don’t know about.

No, she wasn’t told that. She benefited from administrative deferral from the executive branch, which is the absence of law. When laws are not enforced or only selectively enforced, that is when we devolve into tyranny. No kings, remember?

Kudos to Trump for enforcing the laws the people’s representatives voted on and codified!

She overstayed her visa - that is a fact.
Her asylum claim was rejected - that is a fact.

At the discretion of some official she was given temporary relief even though she broke the laws related to above - that is a fact

That temporary relief may have been rescinded which is completely within the scope of the law. So the only one in this story that broke any laws is her. It is pretty simple. She had 40 years to choose to obey the law and remove herself -she chose not to. She made these choices - her choices do not dictate law or policy.
