I am hearing scuttlebutt about deployment of US military.
I have just heard from a couple of local folks so take it with a grain of salt.

All of the Sahel nations from East to West Africa are in a current state of recent coup or active civil war, often with one side backed by Russian Wagner units or Chinese money and the other side by France or other Western powers. Nigeria is in constant conflict with rebel insurgents. Seeing as all of its neighbors are particularly unstable at the moment (coup in Niger literally last week), I can see why American troops might be heading to the region to aid in peacekeeping efforts (protect oil fields and lithium mines).

Same thing as here.
Controversy over who really won the last election.

Coup against the French. Russia moving in, French moving out. The west is losing its strength by the day.

This map, from the BBC, shows Russian influence in Africa.

Let them go empire building. It's a foolish endeavor.

I agree. We need to get our shite together here at home before we try to impose our influence on others.

Just so you know, that is not happening in Nigeria.

:chuckles in Western European:
Have fun, Moscow. Let us know how your foray in the Sahel and sub Saharan Africa is going once you become the enemy after the West leaves.
Been there, done that.

True, it's climate change in Nigeria that's happening lol
Niger has the coup against the French
Nigeria has pretty much a civil war.

They are buying into a thicket of conflict, but Russia has an economy about the size on NY State. Those African kleptocratic states won't be happy with Russia for long.

Have not paid to much media in the last few days, but I just read about the unrest in Niger. My assumption is that they may be staging in Nigeria for extraction if necessary.

I know about Boko Haram etc. was just point out that last weeks coup and the entire French involvement is Niger, not Nigeria.
The French only try and copy mid 80’s - early 00’s US warmongering/neocon policy in their former colonies. Nigeria was a British possession.

Just management of the world demographic ratios. European and African conflicts tend to make it real.

I wonder if that's the same climate change that created the Sahara, or if it's a different one?
