Which is no different than why you do.

You've set up a fantasy scenario where you get your validation thru negative feedback.

You are not a serious poster.

At least I have the ballz to admit I'm not...

After me, you are the second-biggest "contrarian" on the forum. (No insult intended. If you think the title is yours, I won't argue with you.)

Yeah, it's always amusing when someone tries to categorize me based on a single comment in a vacuum.

I'm probably the biggest gun rights supporter most would meet, so I must be a God-fearing, lib-hating fascist.

Or, I think the government should frick off with telling me how to live my life, so I must be a god-hating, progtard groomer.

People are dumb.

though it's clear that while this place leans heavily Right, it's not the only viewpoint here. It's far more diverse than a place like DU.

That is true.

That said I think it's a bit disingenuous to allude to this place keeping everyone here from being subjected to opposing view points. As I said earlier, every major institution is run by The Left. We swim daily in the view point of that narrative. We're well versed in it.

I think there is value to that point, however, the typical discussion here around left-bssed perspectives suggests that people are pretty good at isolating themselves away from it even if it is more dominant in general public discourse. I would definitely hesitate to say that most here are "well versed" in those perspectives.

Not saying that left-focused echo chambers are any better in terms of understanding the other side.

It's possible to exchange ideas and disagree without being a prick. You think it's the former that causes the reaction people have to your posts.
I invite you to cite an instance in which I have been rude toward a poster who was not first rude to me. As an example to the contrary, I point you to Foo. I disagree with him on almost EVERY substantive issue that we discuss here, but he has never engaged in personal attacks upon me, and I reciprocate.

You are less a "pep rally poster" than some, but pep rally posters generally do NOT want to hear contrasting viewpoints, and they immediately engage in person attacks upon anyone who expresses one ... rather than addressing the merits of the "contrarian" post.

But woe upon the "contrarian" who responds in kind to THAT SPECIFIC POSTER. Even the more-reasonable of the majoritarian posters pile-on with the personal attacks.

It is childish and immature behavior, which is why the "pep rally" analogy works so well.

That's because you don't go out of your way to be a pompous dick when discussing other subjects....

Here, not so much...

Sure, but you can have fun while still occasionally saying something intelligent.

Regardless, what's with your obsession with priests?

One difference between you as a contrarian and me as a contrarian is our choice of topics.

You tend to jump into both the topics where you disagree with the majority and those where you agree with the majority. Then you aggravate the crap out of the folks on the "other side."

For the most part, I don't bother posting on the topics where I agree with the majority (probably 80%, honestly). "Ditto Rush" posting bores me.

The last time I did you brushed it off, saying that while they weren't rude in that particular thread you had "history". When you have "history" with a majority of the forum, a mature adult would own at least part of it. You are incapable of doing so.

To each his own.

Part of that is because there's really no other option to engage the "other side" on a topic like gun rights. Sure, most of the posters here who support gun control aren't very stimulating, but it's probably about the best you can do.

If there were a platform where I could spend my time freely hammering the frick out of gun grabbers, I'd probably spend all my free time there. It's the one topic I'll dedicate serious time to, so it probably skews my posting history a bit.

Hank reminds me of the self-fancied intellectuals we likely all had running around on our respective college campuses.

That said, Hank’s posts are usually well-written and I do think he rather enjoys being the contrarian. He does sometimes manage to work his way into inconsistencies given whatever the subject matter and from which political angle it’s coming from, lol.

No personal issues I’ve ever found with Hank and the often opposing viewpoints on whatever given topic are what makes this board hum and interesting (imo).

Fact.

Intellectuals have a curiosity. Hank is closed minded except to progressive causes.

You can’t single out one website as being an echo chamber like it’s the only website or form of media they see.

The right cannot live in an echo chamber when we are bombarded by leftist media and culture all the time. PT and other conservative media are a refuge for us.

On the other hand, lefties live their whole lives in an echo chamber unless they actively seek out other viewpoints.
