I have occasionally used the term rhetorically to describe this forum, but analytically, I tend to agree with Azkiger.
If the "powers that be" are not actively silencing dissenting views, it is probably not technically an echo chamber.

An Echo Chamber is an enviroment that only exposes you to beliefs and worldviews that you already hold (Echo), which definitely describes this place. That's okay and is nothing to get defensive over. We all exist in echo chambers as it is natural to associate with like-minded people.
Adding a censorship rule to the definition is just a shallow attempt to ignore the reality of this Echo chamber, which is really unnecessary and self-restricting.
It's okay to frequent an echo-chamber and it's okay for echo-chambers to exist. However, there is value in recognizing your echo-chambers and making an effort to explore other spaces and perspectives, which is one of the reasons I visit. Altering the definition to make you feel less inclined to venture out of your comfort zone is dumb and only restricts you.

Correct. There's obviously a heavy lean on this site, but there isn't an isolation or restriction of specific ideas.
Being shouted down and being shut down are different.
To be fair, I don't believe that was always the case. I'd say this place used to be a soft echo chamber, but seems to be more of a free-for-all these days, so long as some basic decorum is observed.

Not sure where this forum would fall on that graphic, since the "popular" views do get "upvotes" at 10:1 ratios, while we DO have vibrant debates. Granted, those debates usually involve 2-3 posters on one side and dozens of posters on the other ... but the debates ARE tolerated.

It has a strong majority opinion, but if you have a backbone and a strong logical case, then a case can be made.
Whereas in other forums, if you put an unpopular opinion out there, it will be censored.

There are liberal echo chambers too.
