Scalese probably has a long road ahead toward recovery. What happens to his seat? Is it filled temporarily by appointment?

He's incapacitated, you don't just stick peoples spouses in when they aren't able.

Nothing? He'll resume his duties when he recovers?

He has the seat until his term runs out or he resigns. His whip role goes to the deputy whip.

I pray he recovers.

That is what led me to ask the question. If he is incapacitated for say nearly a year, does his seat remain unfilled or is it filled temporarily until he can resume his duties? He is in a leadership type position and government marches on.

Thanks Cajun Cricket. I did not know there was a deputy whip.

The seat is still his.

Hopefully he will recover quickly enough to where he can handle some business from his home. Isn't there some way that he can vote by proxy? Technology should allow this.

They kept bringing this skeleton into the Senate to vote. No reason they can't do the same with Scalise

From a couple of articles I just read, proxy voting is allowed in committee voting but on votes on the house floor, you have to be present.

It's not like there isn't any precedent for this

Why the vitriol and downvoting? It was a reasonable question. Everyone is wishing the representative a good recovery and lots of prayers are being sent. I'm sure we all want the seat to remain Republican. Let's not cannibalize our own.

We probably need to wait and see if this alone satiates the Progressive need for Republican blood. Based on the reaction so far, I'm guessing this was not as fulfilling as they thought it would be and there are so many other juicy targets out there while they wait for the Media/ Deep State takedown of Trump.

You're off the rails. That scene yesterday was sickening, but you're setting yourself up for the next Gabby Gifford scenario. And it will happen.

Because there are psychopaths in America

Robert Byrd. Senator from W. Virginia that had that seat for 60+ years.

God speed to him and his health. I pray he gets better and personally hope for the best for his health outlook. Can't imagine what he has gone through or what his family is enduring. Any physical attack on our public servanrs is an attack on the people he represents.
