Not likely but it would be bizarre.

According to the rules of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a vacancy for the candidacy in the case of death would be filled in the same manner that a presidential candidate is selected during the national convention.

The 168 members of the RNC - three from every US state, and three from the six territories of the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands - would cast their votes and the candidate would be elected by a majority.

It is a requirement for the RNC to re-elect their new presidential candidate and so it would not automatically fall to the current vice president Mike Pence, although he would constitutionally be required to fill the role of president in the interim period.

Would they keep Pence? Bring in someone else? Do the nevertrumpers return?

Pence is clearly in line for the next Republican nomination, whenever that is. Though if Biden wins this election I could see Mike DeWine or Ron DeSantis getting some run in 2024. They could even run together and be DeTicket.

I would 100% vote for DeWine.

They would elevate Pence, because the unfortunate side effect of Trump is that he claims all accomplishments as his own. No other Republicans can claim success over the last four years, and since Pence was part of the administration, he is the only one who gets the rub.

Most certainly would be Pence. Romney would have had high enough profile to warrant consideration if he had been a loyal foot soldier, but he’s Judas to the RNC these days.

Biden would win by a lot regardless of who the rnc threw up there at the last minute.

Personally, I think Pence taking over would be great for the republican party.

Sorry y’all there is no national appeal for Mike pence. People gravitate to trumps zeal and energy. Pence doesn’t have that.

People are also deterred by his attitude & inability to unite the country. As a swing voter I'd probably vote republican if Pence took over.

Pence wouldn't unite the country either and he'd lose a lot of the base.

Imo, a Pence run would kick the shite out of Biden. Most People don't have a problem with Trump's ideology...they just don't personally like the guy.

He doesn't have an ideology. He has a convenient political platform.

Call me names if you want but you can't deny the country is a complete shite show right now. I know the left has attacked Trump on a bunch of BS from day 1 but all presidents get attacked. I'll say it again, he has absolutely zero ability to unite the country, and that's exactly what we need right now. People hate on Trump just because who he is. I don't think Mike Pence would get half the shite Trump gets.
