IDK about all of that, but there were a lot of SS protocols that got revised in the mid/late 90s to clarify what sort of intervention the protective detail was expected to do under various circumstances:
"What if the First Lady throws objects at the President?"
"What if the First Lady makes physical threats to the President and the President's detail steps in? What is the responsibility of the First Lady's detail? Protection of the First Lady? Even against clearly protective actions of the President's detail? Or are they to assist in safely securing the First Lady for the President's benefit?"
Not to mention all the emails and memos about the President's "whore" (to quote the First Lady of course), but they had protocols for that going back to the early 60s at least.
The First Lady posing a verbal and physical threat to the President was a new and novel challenge for the Secret Service, for sure.

So this brings up an interesting question. If the secret service walked in on a domestic violence situation how would they respond? If it were the case of Harris being President and being attacked by her husband, would they violently stop him? If they walked in and Trump and his wife were in an altercation would they react differently? I am now genuinely curious as to what protocol would be
