Correct. He also never clarified what he meant when he said they would pay for it.

I'm not saying he will be successful but at no point should anyone EVER have assumed it was going to be some sort of direct exchange of funds.

Alas, anything short of that and liberals will say Mexico didn't supply a dime.

Cause, as per usual, liberals are intellectually dishonest.........or stupid. I'm never 100% sure which.

only an idiot thought that mexico would actually cut a check.

wasn't trump going to raise the percentage rate of transferring money from the us to mexico? cant remember where I read that (maybe here). so all the money that people here are sending back to mexico, the US is going to take a bigger cut. according to NPR, 69 billion dollars was sent out to other countries from people in the US. about 40% of that is sent to mexico alone...coming out to 27.6 billion a year. just increasing the rate by 5% would raise close to 1.4 billion a year. and that's at 5%. the rate increase may very well be higher. that's how mexico is going to pay for it.

Glad you have at least accepted that there will be a wall (and it will be beautiful)

I never did. I gave him the benefit of the doubt to clarify what appeared to be an off the cuff remark. He never did, so I came to the conclusion he had no real plan in mind. But don't let that stop y'all from filling in the blanks for him.

Are you talking about the fence that Mexico is not paying for?

It's a fence. Not a wall.:

Well, even my wittle old self can imagine dozens of possible ways, if it happened, the Mexico would fund. Or, some combination of those ways.

If I intended to set the negotiating conditions to gain such a situation, I clearly would have multiple avenues in mind.

Alas, I would hope you'd know that.

The only "blank" I fill in is the assumption that he will in fact attempt to create a situation via negotiations where we gain at Mexico's expense in pursuit of the wall.

I make no guarantees of success. But, it's really not unthinkable to imagine a situation whereby that could happen.

I mean, we are BY FAR the bigger Gorilla in that negotiation. I tend to side with the bigger Gorilla in most negotiations unless the bigger Gorilla plans to virtue signal his way out of being bigger.

The end of your post made me think of the below picture.

Boy are those ruling class white guys in Mexico pale and the current one is small. For fun, google Mexican Presidents and everyone is about as white as me (I tan well). They don't like their darker skinned brothers and sisters so they send them north for us. Ever seen an illegal immigrant from Mexico that looks like Vicente or Enrique?

Enrique:

Felipe:

Vicente:

Ernesto:

Well I can too, but that's not the point. The guy was running for President. I expect a candidate to have at least a cursory understanding of issues he's speaking about. He made a claim that Mexico would pay for the wall he wanted to build, but then never provided even basic explanation for how he planned to make that happen, and his supporters have been left to fill in the blanks for him.

It confirmed what I suspected it was - a red meat line to throw to his base.

You have no way of knowing he didn't other than your TDS.

I don't know about you, but when I plan to enter into what I know will be highly contentious negotiations, I don't tend to go on TV and tell everyone my "plan".

This is just more of your TDS.

shrug. They won't.

We all know he was just lying to his cultists. Red meat and all that. He never had any intention of having them pay for it.

Which is why he is working so hard to have "you" pay for it my fellow taxpayers.

This.

Donald never has much of an actual plan to back up anything he says...ie he repealing ACA on day one of his presidency.

But his cultists are always happy to fill in what he "meant".

I didn't expect him to detail his plan, just to give me something to show he actually had a plan. He never did.

I can only assume you don't know what negotiations look like.

Hint. Your last Camry doesn't really count.
