If you were in the HoR you would have the whole month free!

I need that work schedule with their pay, their insurance, and their access to insider trading

They work a grand total of 5 days a week, three times throughout the entire year

So, August = recess appointment season?

Food for thought:
House member:
$174,000 (leaders and speaker earn more)
136 days per year
Teacher:
$64,300 (adjusted avg.)
182 days per year
Those are just days "in office". Certainly both professions do work off the clock as well, but it's still an interesting comparison. I'd argue a good teacher does more for society than a good house member over the course of a career. (Keyword = good)

I liked the old days better. Didn't they only show up in Washington for a couple of months a year, but the rest of the time they were at their other jobs?

So, the only times they work is when they are in session?
Is the only time you work the times you are sitting at your desk?

When folks rode horse and buggy to get to DC, I can understand the long calendar breaks... Not so much now... I do understand they need to work in their districts but these gaps are a big part of the reason why they cannot get anything meaningful done...
I wish one of them would propose a bill that said Congress cannot recess until a budget is passed each year... Let them work nights and weekends... no CR, no kicking the can down the road, real budget... Then take their breaks as they wish...
