Well, since Trump has failed to get anything done, there are no actual policies that are being repudiated, but there are proposed policies:
Immigration Ban
Rollback of LGBT rights (Military)
Tax cuts for wealthy
Cuts to Medicaid and Obamacare

I think you are setting up a strawman. The narrative being pushed is the Trump was rejected (or that this was a loss for Trump). I think this is very much overstated by a desperate media. However none of it is really focused on policy.
But since Trump is a policy "thin" president, I don't think your defense holds much water. It would be like focusing on Drew Brees rushing stats: "Sure they intercepted him three times, but he got 5+ yards per carry!"
One exception- I did hear one story that focused on Medicaid expansion.
