No doubt AI can and will improve in all technology, but we know the military has functional lasers. If we do possess space defense lasers, it would NOT be known. "We" wouldn't know anything about it. IMHO

There are very few if any defenses against a nuclear missile once it reaches the stratosphere. It is theoretically possible to shoot it down before then but one with multiple war heads like the US and Russia possesses are indefensible at that point.

Multiple independently targeted re-entry vehicles makes it tough. Instead of one missile, there may be a dozen. All dropping to a different place.

They don't have to be faster than supersonic missles, there is this thing called trajectory.... now days we have AI/computers that figure that part out.
