What are ‘progressives’ actually progressing towards?

I’ve asked this question a lot over the years and pondered many answers. The best I can come up with is a society where there’s little accountability or personal responsibility.

The run of the mill American who carries the label “progressive” is just as much a mindless lemming as any other average American.

Some in power use the label to establish power/control or to keep it.

So it really isn’t much different in that regard compared to any other sociopolitical ideology. The big difference is that the natural consequences of this ideology don’t work. Ever.

They think that society now is just as racist and awful as it was in the 1950s-60s despite having lots of influence at all levels since then; so I'd say they view themselves as progressing nowhere

They progressively chip away at the constitution.

A utopia where men become women. Women become men. Speech codes are in place. Personal liberty is limited. Freedom to worship is banned. What’s yours (lol) is really theirs. The government can listen in to your most private moments. Doctors no longer first do harm, they can actively kill you. You can eat what a select few superiors decide is good for you.. I’m sure there is more they’d like to put in place. Sounds great, doesn’t it?

I’d guess a world where everyone lives in peace and harmony and there is no Poverty and suffering.

Problem is, people are naturally evil and violent. Their Utopia is not possible unless you build it and heavily screen who is allowed to get in.

You know a like a border. Or wall or something.

But even then, it won’t work. A perfect non violent society at generation 1 will not be perfect and non violent by generation 2/3.
